HMT HID FAQ...

Really looking into getting a set of HIDs for the EJ8, but I feel as if I'm not even close to being considered a n00b with this stuff. :l

1) I've read that the lower the K (Kelvin Temperature) rating is the brighter it is, but they don't have a blue tint to them, just white....Am I correct?

2) What's up with the whole H4 thing in Civics that only allow you to have HID in low beam and not in high beam too? Does that mean your low beams are going to be brighter than the high beams and your high beams just suck?

3) I see that the kits with the higher K rating are more expensive; however, like in question 1, I've heard the lower the better...I'm lost once again. :-\

4) Lastly, just like everything out there you have your Precision and your SSAC, so anyone run the $100 HID kits on eGay?

Just looking on a little education and help here fellows. Looking to see if it's worth the money or not. Thanks! ;) ;D

Re: HMT HID FAQ...

I wouldn't get one of the eGay kits. I have read a few places it's easy to go to the yard and gank some out of something like a S2k or s few other cars with stock HIDs and modify them. I had a good link saved that showed a good step by step of everything, but I forgot to save it when I did the reformat. :1

Re: HMT HID FAQ...

1)lower K emmit whiter color but it does not "shine" as much as the high K ones. usually 6 K to 8K would be your limit, 10K HIDs emmit PURPLE ligths which is dumb IMO.

2)most cheap HID kit has a fixed light bulb socket, u do loose high beam, but then there are some kit that cost slightly more, the light bulb seats in a adjustable seat (it looks like a litter square box thingy behind the bulb), the light bulb would stick out more to work as high beam when activiated.

3) reffer to my #1 answer, again 8K should be a optimal color, anything over will only get u pulled over. I installed a 10K in an audi A4 and it look DUMB, thelights are actually PURPLE.

4) I WAS selling those kits , but now most kit on ebay might not be complete, make sure u talk to them and have htme garentte that it is a complete kit with all the harness. they don`t really blew out that easy but most of the time the problem occur on the box (balaster??), see if the seller can garentte anything.

If you can wait i will be getting those high-low beam kit in about a month or two at some kick ass prices ;)

So what kind of low ball prices are you talking about because I'm in no big rush...

---- HID kits, if its not original it will work and look like complete ass ... I speak from experience :X
I replaced my 10k HID kit with some Philips X-treme H4 bulbs and I can actually see the road now.
I wouldnt go over 5600k or you lose visibility

Re: HMT HID FAQ...

I hate seeing my shadow in front of my car because the person behind me with HIDs lights go further than my headlights in front of me.

Re: HMT HID FAQ...

fake HID's are gay and annoying for on coming drivers. They do help with lighting, but not much.

Do a hid projector retrofit. More expensive, but the results are worth it, imo. Lighting is phenomenal, even with the cheapest projectors. They aren't annoying because hid projectors come stock on a lot of new cars.

If you do get fake hids, don't go about 6k. ANything above gives you a gay color and lighting becomes horrible.

Re: HMT HID FAQ...

8k hid's is blue. You want optimum visibility, get 4300K. If you want a hint of blue/white, get 5000K. 5000K is the highest I would go.

i have 4300K in my car and my brother has 5000K, he's been driving my car for a little while now and said mine light up the road better.

I think the lowest is like 3000K which is jDM yellow and doesn't shie for ----, it's like a 10000K

Yellow would be cool, but you're saying they suck? I want some blue in it, but I see some places sell bulbs that make them green, yellow, blue, red, purple....what's up with that?
