so i ripped the wall out of my garage. its one of those walls put in to devide it in two. now i want to keep the two electical outlets that were on that wall, but i dont know ---- about electrical stuff. i plan on taking the light switch that was on that wall and just mount it to the ceiling next to the garage door opener. i need to know how to keep these two electrical outlets so i can use them, but i dont want to mount them to a wall.

Um, as for what you are doing, post pics. In the end I'm sure it is going to be take the wires going to the outlet, re-route them back to where you want either running it through the wall or through conduit, adding a box, and wiring in a plug. If you can't figure out how to do this, I'm scared for you.

Just to let you know, if the given electrical wire length isn't long enough, you need to add a junction box to connect two different strands of wire together. If you do it within the conduit, that is way against code.

So let me get this straight. you want to keep the two outlets but don't want to put them in a wall? Then where are you going to put them? If you have a support column in the center I guess you could use conduit and run it up the column and put the outlet there. That's kinda ghetto though.

I would run the wires back to the regular wall and cut two hole in next to a stud, drop the wires in the wall from the ceiling (I'm assuming you have walls of somekind and not bare 2x4's), wire thee box and put the cover on it. You don't need conduit for something like that.

I think we need pics first so we can get a better idea what your dealing with.

PS I'm not an electrician either, I've just helped my dad with our garage.

nevermind, i got it done. i just clipped out the outlets and rewired the light switches and hung the from the ceiling. i forgot about the other 4 outlets from the rest of the room, so losing two isnt that big of a deal. i know the cut and splice thing is definetly against code, but it works, and we dont plan on selling the house ever so ---- em. its so damn nice having a full garage again. right now we are painting my friends cb750 jet black in my garage. ill post picks up probably tomorrow sometime.

Id suggest j-box in attic? I didnt read your post too well but it sounds like it would worky

if you just open spliced them that is how house fires start.

PVC junction boxes with covers are all of $10. You're retarded if you don't add a junction box and properly wire nut the wires. It isn't even hard to do so there really is no excuse.
