if you need help figuring this out, pm me and i will be glad to help. i dont log on much these days though, so dont expect an instant response

also, the hardware firewall doesn't need to be an expensive one. you are not operating a corporate network with umpteen billion machines hiding behind the firewall.

lol. damn. i wonder if it was a linux router. cus i know theres an option to turn of dos attacks in a linux router. just depends what version of a particular software you use.

unfortunately a firewall wont do you a damn bit of good if the DOS attack uses all the of bandwidth. even if the firewall rejects the attacks.. all the bandwidth has been used to get the attacks to the router.

not to mention running off of a DSL/Cable home internet connection would be so laggy it's not even funny.

actually, you can set the router to ignore, rather than reject, unwanted traffic. there is a difference. the dos attack wont work because the machine would appear to be off, instead of appearing to be on but rejecting all requests. you cannot attack a machine that is turned off(usually anyways). the only connection that they would be able to make would be to port 80, which would be a legitimate http connection.

if im not mistaken, the old server ran off of a cable/dsl line. i doubt that jeff is paying the $$$$$$$$ for a t1 line, or even a fractional t1.
