Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
No pics yet, but maybe by the end of this week. It was dark and didn't even see the fucker until he was an inch in front of my bumper. I feel horrible about hitting someone's dog, but he effed up my car pretty good. Actually my airbags did more damage than the dog. The dog fucked the front bumper, my cca intercooler, and cracked the mounts for my driver side headlight and corner light. The passenger side airbag ripped up half my dash, smashed my front windshield, and the pressure of the expansion of the two airbags blew my rear hatch window right off :S.
What do you guys think-- its a 95 civic cx hatchback. Will the insurance company total it? If it counts for anything it has a lot of aftermarket addtions-- would they bring up the blue book value at all, like the b18b turbo engine, upgraded sound system, tinted windows, 2yr old paint job, aftermarket headlights, etc? Anyway, the airbags are ------- ridiculous. It sounded like someone fired a gun off next to my ear, it was ringing for 5 minutes afterward, and they blew out my rear hatch. WTF? My mom used to work for Calspan where they tested cars for impact safety n shite, and she said that she's seen videos of airbags hitting people and making their eyes pop out or shattering their faces to the point that they need multiple reconstructive surgeries or even killing them by breaking their necks. Thats feckin crazy. If my car doesn't get totaled, I'm not replacing my airbags. Newer airbags are supposed to be safer and more gentle though ::) Who knows, but mine just fucked my car pretty good. |
Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
that sucks, post pics when you can. i can't even imagine hitting a 100lb dog, that would defanitley do alot of damage.

Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
shitty day hope we can get it all fixed up.
|
Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60

Sure will. They will total in the cost of the airbags and those alone are worth more than your car. Hurry up and swap in a pos D15B7 and rip everything out before the adjuster gets there.

Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
how much could he get for a 95 eg
|
Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
he will get blue book and then have the option to buy it back for anywhere from $50-500
|
Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
hmm blue book lists the car in excellent condition at about 3650. Kinda pissed b/c I could have sold it around here for 5k or more

if they total your car, they will pay you blue book, and let you buy it for a very cheap price. so you will have your car and what they thought it was worth so you can fix it. a friend of mine got t boned and they let him buy the car for $50 and gave him blue book for it. so he ended up with the car and everything in it and a pocket full of cash. i'm not seeing a problem. ??? |
Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
What do you have to go through to get a totaled car back on the road legally? Just have it able to pass inspection?

and to save money get the dash that doesn't have a passenger airbag. i know in WA you have to have an inpestion, and they look at receipts to make sure you didn't use stolen parts. oh and if you get an airbag off of ebay make sure you have a bill of sale with a copy of the title from the car it came from, a friend of mine just ran into that problem. |
Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60

Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
That sucks about your car and the poor dog. Is insurance gonna cover you?
|
Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
The dog got owned-- I feel horrible about it because I would be pretty upset if it happened to my dog, but I really couldn't do anything to avoid the dog, it happened too fast. I don't have collision, but because his dog wasn't on a leash, his insurance is supposed to cover it. Kinda shitty to have to pay for someones car after they killed your dog, but i don't have the money to cover it myself
|
Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
Try to find the owner and sue them.

Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60

Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
So i've talked to a few people who know the guy, and they've all said he's not the kind of guy that I'm going to get money from. Apparently he's some crazy hick that lives in a shack alone. Bastard has no assets and probably doesn't have any kind of insurance, so if he can't pay, then I'm fucked, because my insurance company says I only have liability coverage and they don't cover me hitting anything even if i'm not at fault
|
Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
shitty, guess the only thing is to do now is start saving and rebuild your car :-\

btw you own a hatch with a swap and nice paint - wwhy not full coverage? them things gets stolen as much as bikes around me |
Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
Eh I'm pretty rural, nothing ever gets stolen around here, and as for the insurance, I am poor as ---- and can't afford full coverage. I knew I didn't have collision, but my mechanic thought that there should be some sort of no fault coverage for hitting animals n stuff even without collision

Re: Hit a 100lb dog doing 60
