Hi & Basics Question
Just a quick introduction as this is my first post so please be gentle.
I am wanting to turbo my bike (ZX6R) this winter, as a project, I am just wondering though, can someone tell me the basics, do I need to change pistons etc or is the turbo I can just add on (if only it was that simple) and run a low boost, also is it madatory that I change the airbox for a metal/aluminium one, what are the advantages? In fairness I want to start off slow without having to change too much on the bike but I know I will get there in the end. Also, can someone suggest a turbo that is fairly small so that I can ratain the fairing on the bike. If someone could point me in the right dirrection I would be most greatful. |
why turbo it man, just get a 1000 cheaper, less headache and faster

but the question is, wheres the fun? I want to turbo it because its something different.

If you can't do a bit of research on your own, do yourself a favor and push the bike off a cliff, you'll destroy it quicker and it won't cost you as much... bamm no headaches involved...

Ah ever useful replies, thanks, I have started to do research but thought I would also ask to get a point in the right dirrection

Do a search there has been a couple or turbo bikes. Is it FI or does it have carburetors? If its a carb bike u need to enclose the whole carbs so the floats done shut close. if u have a fi bike look into megasquirt mini. The rest is all up to u. different turbos will give u different power bands and spool points. The pistons and all that crap u probably wont need for low boost. Its not PSI that blows engines but HP. SO this is the part where u search for the weak points of the engine that u are working with...

Thanks for the help mate its carb'd so will have a look into the enclosing the cars (no idea what that is if you can tell me more what you mean I wowuld be greatful) I know it can be done as someone has done it to the same year/model bike before just he has since got rid of the bike so cant get hold of him for more details
