Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
Okay, im recently faced with a big decision... Im gonna get married in less than 6 months... Work is going to require me to live within 35 miles of the building, i currently live about 47 miles away, so ill have to move if i stay there, but i can bid the same job at another building about 22 miles away, so i wont have to move, but the guys i would have to work with (ive worked with them before) are absolute ------- assholes and will ---- you every chance they get. It makes for a long and very stressful day, and where im working now the guys are pretty decent, but i really dont want to have to sell my house and all that... but i dont want to be stressed at work every day... what would you guys do, move or work with assholes?
edit: plus i like my neighborhood, its down the street from my rents and stuff |
Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
why within 35 miles????
What is an extra 12 miles communte? |
Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
its a union job, and its in the contract. they want us to be able to get into work quick if there is an emergency (i work for a electric utility)

Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
Lie on your address. Done, and the only way I'd do it. You're asking us to choose between your union and your LIFE. easy ---- here.

Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
Know anyone in the 35 mile range?

I'm with the lie on your address. It isn't worth the stress to take that job 22 miles away. And it isn't worth the stress to move. ---- it.

Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
ehh i know that you guys are thinking it would be easy to lie about the address but its not that simple, they actually investigate it and they do look into it, I know of one guy who tried to do this and they actually showed up at the place and interviewed the landlord and researched the utility bills etc... and then when they found out he was rarely there they forced him out of his job for another job
|
Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
Don't move, kill the assholes at the closer job a month before the job starts. Problem solved.
|
Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
find a friend or coworker to "live" with.

if you work with the assholes everyday, you're life will be miserable.
What type of area you live in, any chance of renting your place out and moving closer? Just charge enough that you keep low rent dickheads out that would trash the place, and take at least 1st and last months rent deposit to cover possible damages. That would be a less permanent solution, and could start building passive income if you end up liking where you move to. |

Maybe just get a studio apartment and keep your house?
|
Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
My step dad works about hour and a half away, rents this cheap ass trailer and comes back home when he wants. Pay offset>rent. If the job pays enough just do something like that, rent a trailer and use it as storage or something.

Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
Yeah at this point i think working with alot less stress everyday>working with assholes... Plus, i was thinking of selling the house i have now and moving closer to work, but i got this house for a steal, so i stand to make alot of money on it anyway... You guys gotta understand that the assholes i used to work with drove 2 different guys out of their jobs, and one guy out of the department entirely. At least the guys i work with now are decent, we watch eachothers back and have fun most of the time too, no such luck at the other building... yeah this job pays wayy too good to ---- up

Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
Then rent out your house, even if you end up paying a couple hundred per month for the mortgage, then rent something on the way cheap side (unless you ball) closer to work. At worst you have renters paying off your house, and you keep your job.

Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
im thinking about that too steve, but i worry about it because its a decent place and it has a pool, and stuff can go to hell if not taken care of good. Plus, the mortage is roughly 1700/mo.

Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
So? There's plenty of families flopping on their $3,000 mortgage to rent a bomb place at $1,700. There's a market for lots of everything in the rental market. Don't worry about upkeep. They'll either take care of it, or you'll take care of it later. Fixing ---- is cheap if you've got two hands and they aren't used for picking up the phone.
Write into the contract that you do a walk through every 6 months, and be ---- about what needs to be fixed when you see it, charge a good security deposit, etc.... |
Re: Hey OG's, what would you do... need your opinion
yeah, i think thats what im gonna do, keep the house, but keep it rented, but also get a modest apartment. i should work out really good if i play my cards right i think
