Re: Hey Honda Tech, FUCK YOU!!

Looking around for some of the new communist rules, I found that George "I have no opinion and always play the middle" Knighton has said that having a business in your signature or having a screen name with a business name in it is calls for a "summary action by Internet Brands". It's always hard to figure out what Mr. No Opinion is trying to say, but it's pretty safe to say Internet Brands is a bunch of greedy suits who would probably sue you if they thought you had the money. On the flipside, the registration agreement says nothing about any of this.
Then I found a topic in General Discussion where there were 7 pages of people complaining about the 14x increase in sponsors fees, and it was conveniently locked.

I see the point, but Chris is an actual member of this site, not a suit offering public HMT stock and mingling with Wall Street.

The problem with that is most of them do it for their self esteem issues, and aren't smart enough to realize they're free labor for Wall Street.

Yeah, I said most. Schister666 is a good guy.

Re: Hey Honda Tech, FUCK YOU!!

As yet another HT sponsor, who was stripped of our previously purchased adviews, I though I would weigh in with my own complaints.

On second thought, that won't help, it will just add to the already large pile of complaints.

InternetBrands is obviously a large (as least dollarwise), profit motivated company. They are the new "magazine" owners of the online world. Much like the large publishing companies that own numerous unrelated magazine lines, they are concerned only with profit, and not the communities they serve.

This is why you see so much turnover of staff in the magazine community. The owners of the parent publishing company are concerned only with profit and ad sales, while the poor slobs (editors, photogs, readers) who care about the content are treated with hostility by their owners and employers. The relationship is almost adversarial, with owners wanting profit, and everyone else wanting to build the community. It creates an environment where there is a lot of turnover and loss of community feel.

InternetBrands apparently has zero interest in the honda community, or the myriad of other automotive communities for which they have purchased the largest and most potentially profitable websites. They are making sweeping policy changes with an almost hostile reaction to their paid advertisers, apparently hoping to quickly sweep away those who may not be willing to pay the huge increases.

If you want to make your complaints heard, and have an affect on the community, you have to strike where it hurts.

- Since IB is only concerned about revenue, start contacting their advertisers directly and demanding that they no longer support the site. Send a letter/email to Garrett, or YoParts, or better yet all of their advertisers, and tell them that you will no longer buy from them, until they quit advertising with HT, or any site owned by IB. Send the letter everyday, or until you get action. Have your friends send letters, and their friends, etc. Set up an automailer. Contribute to the contact list...see below.

- Content brings in pageviews, and pageviews sells advertising. No content equals no advertising revenue. Delete all of your contributions from HT (before you get banned). Contact all of your friends to do the same. Contact any small companies you deal with on HT, and ask them to delete any tech posts they have authored. Start sending PMs to prominent and respected HT members imploring them to stop contributing, and to delete any of their content.

- Create a competing website. Purchase HondaTechFamily or HondaTechCommunity or something similar, and start your own website. Approach all of the advertisers who used to be on HT, and offer them free advertising for six months as you build readership. Approach all of the prominent/respected members from the previous step, and ask them to instead post up their content on your site. Build an online community of Honda enthusiasts, like HT could have been. (Not dissing HMT, it's just a different animal. HMT is a home for the elite and irreverant of the Honda world. Regular Honda newbs can't survive here.)

- And here is my favorite. "Honda" (the car manufacturer) is very concerned with their image. They are quick to stop anyone from using their name in advertisements or any other form of copyright infringement. Send your emails to them. Express your concerns about IB, and how their practices are reflecting poorly on the Honda brand. Tell them that you will not purchase another Honda vehicle, accessory, or replacement part until they take some sort of action against HT. If they are overwhelmed with incoming concerns about IB's use of the Honda name in it's url, then they may begin copyright enforcement actions against HT. Imagine the effect if HT had to remove the word "Honda" from it's url? Here is come contact info for Honda America....

lol, the $ amounts arent even in the same league. I doubt that in a year HMT as a whole brings in what one or two sponsors pay monthly at HT. I know if i was a mod on HT i wouldve sent an email to IB saying i wouldnt continue without compensation. Imho only an idiot would continue to be a mod and work for free to police a website that was making a bunch of suits filthy rich.
