Hey guys, stripped a head bolt... can it be fixed?

For some reason, it pulled all of the threads out of the block... so now i have no real threads in the block, my question is have any of you guys tried a helicoil for a headbolt? It needs to be torqued to 72lb ft...

I wouldnt trust a Heli for that kind of abuse, as Ive pulled them back out with light duty app's. Best bet would be drill and re-tap, and find larger head studs

what about if u tapped out the hole got a larger stud from the hardware store? there would be one different on but ---- it if you can tap it out it should be cake.

yeah, that ---- sucks, and if you dont use the same headbolts on every one, it can cause the head to warp. So you would want to retap ALL of them. Helicoils suck, i tried it, and it didnt work. I could even get the thing to set in correctly. Use the new block, to much of a hassle, especially if your boosted and dont want to do it all over again.

K... yeah i think im prolly gonna pull the motor, it was overheated like a beeotch, really badly, the stock head was warped but the bottom end looked ok, but ALL the threads pulled out and were wrapped around the bolt when i was torquing it down (never seen anything like it before) and since the head warped straight up where this bolt is (was) im prolly gonna quit ------- with this block

I would retap and go with a bigger bolt or use a Timesert (like a helicoil but better). I helicoiled the three bolts on the rear transmission bracket mount on an L3 tranny (88-91 Civic cable tranny, obviously aluminium). I have had no problems with it yet and have had it running for 6 months. I am also afraid to take the bolts out... ??? :'(

anybody think of how well a bigger bolt/stud would fit?...and its not like you can just go get one from a hardware store, i doubt anyone really makes bigger sized ones for hondas
