Hey guys.

Thought I would post. I have been singed up for a long time but have never posted.

A little about my car.

It’s a 03 Mazda protégé.
1.8L BP motor swap. "Only one I know of"
Custom T3 turbo header.
Precision SC32 turbo.
Tial 38mm waste gate.
ACT extreme 6 puck clutch.
1000cc RC injectors.
Wisco forged pistons 8.2to1.
Custom 3 gal. Fuel cell.
MicroTech LT8s ECU.
Welded diff. stock tranny.

It made 290hp on 14psi on the 3rd pass ever on the dyno, after putting the new ECU in. It then spun a bearing. Guess that’s what happens when you beat the crap out of a used Japan motor for 3 years.
I just put new Barings in it and took it to the track. This was the first time the car has ever been to the track with this set up and being a drag only car. The first two passes it had some electrical problems. But the first full pass ran 11.8@120mph and the next two passes were 11.8 and ran a best of an 11.7 at the end of the night. These runs were done on a set of used 22x8x15 M/T slicks. Did not do any tuning on it just making sure everything was working right before being any harder on it. And the car does not have a cage in it yet so 2 more tenths would have kicked me out. This year with new upgrades to the motor and more boost, and taller slicks im looking to run well into the 10s. and hoping to make around 380-400hp.

the night i got the motor back togeather.

last day the track was open.

purdy neat... must be nice to have such a new toy, most the drag cars on here are older than their owners... or at least close ;D

Holy ---- that is just great. :o Welcome to HMT that is the first seriously built Protege I have seen.Must be a real killer on the street as I wouldn't see it coming. You daily drive with a welded diff or is it normally on the trailer?

Was this with the stock turbo that comes with the BPT? My friend has that swap and he thinks he's going to run 11's out of the box. :-\

Nice car BTW. The paintjob kinda reminds me of Bergenholtz's new Protege'

I like your car, but you scare me.

You spun a rod bearing due to detonation - detonation causes sudden sharp pressure spikes of 2-3 times the peak combustion pressure, that last for a couple nanoseconds. This jams the rod down hard enough to displace the oil the rod bearing is supposed to be running on, causing the bearing to smack against the crank. This is why you spun a bearing.

Got to hand it to you, solid solid 11's untuned, you have balls. And your car isn't slow. But that ---- is going to come apart again if you don't do a little better by it.

Re: Hey guys.

nice looking setup, but why are you running 1000cc injectors for only 290 hp when 600ish cc injectors would be more than enough and still give you a good idle.
