Here's a new bike for all you to enjoy...
Anyone seen the Suzuki Stratosphere that's being released next year?

Suzuki Stratosphere is a Suzuki concept motorcycle, powered by a 1100cc transverse narrow-bore 24-valve inline-6 engine, rated at 180 HP. According to Suzuki press materials, the engine produced above 100 lb-ft of torque from just above idle all the way to redline. The engine was reported to be three-quarters of an inch narrower than the Hayabusa 4-cylinder engine due to the narrow-bore spacing. The prototype was first unveiled on October 22, 2005, at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show. It's general design is based on and harks back to the original Suzuki ED1/ED2 Katana created by Target Design.
Specifics to the prototype shown in Tokyo: * Electrically adjustable windshield * Four LED headlights * Adjustable handlebars * Built-in GPS navigation system with blue-tooth tie-in for audio; matching blue-tooth helmet shown at show * Attachable saddlebags with hidden (recessed, not visually apparent) attachment points * Combined selectable manual and automatic transmission modes using a servo operated manual transmission, akin to the Yamaha FJR1300A. * Integrated Anti-theft electronic wireless keyfob system, akin to the Kawasaki Concours 14 Ki-Pass keyfob system. [edit] Actual Production Approved Suzuki confirmed in August 2007 the Suzuki Stratosphere will enter production, although expected release date, initial model year, initial pricing, and specific list of changes from the original prototype shown in Tokyo were not released, aside from the fact that it would retain the six-cylinder narrow-bore engine (Source: Bike (UK) Magazine (print edition), April 2008, page 17). Given Suzuki's experience with the BKing, it is likely that the Stratosphere will appear, at least visually, very similar to the prototype, although the aluminum fairings are apt to be replaced by ABS fairings, and many of the specialty electronics (GPS, HUD, etc.) are unlikely to see production. According to Bike Point Australia, the Stratosphere will enter production as a 2009 model. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photo...atospheren.jpg http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photo...atosphereo.jpg http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photo...atospherep.jpg http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photo...atosphereq.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJMkXg83ADo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjiYq7xrj0g Who will be the first to buy one of these then die on it? |
Re: Here's a new bike for all you to enjoy...
The display is cool but I'm not really feeling the rest of the bike. The plastic is just too...I don't know what to call it. It's just too flowy or something :S Where's the frame on that beast? Not to mention the alternator just sticking out doesn't look to classy.

Re: Here's a new bike for all you to enjoy...
i think that it looks so weird because they are trying too hard to show off the new motor

Re: Here's a new bike for all you to enjoy...
Well you guys gotta remember, the bike above was in it's concept form. I doubt when it's released it'll have the LCD display, or crazy ass outward appearance. It probably won't even have the LED headlights. Then again, when the Katana came out in the 80s, they were looked at the same way, and were a bit "crazy" compared to the other bikes at the time.
I'm sure in it's final form, more of the bike would be covered by fairings like all other sportbikes today. I was more interested in the 180hp 100tq. You know it's gotta haul. |

---- someone google boss hoss. thats a bad ass bike. i bet it gets randoms strikes approval.

Re: Here's a new bike for all you to enjoy...
beings I4s internal balance is shitty and they rev to 15k i wonder what the I6 will do being as its the most balanced of engines

The balancing really isn't the limiting factor for how hight it can rev. Once you hit a certain piston acceleration it gets expensive to get things to hold together. Also, preventing valve float is a big issue. |

It's "more" balanced than an i4, but I'm not even sure balanced is the word. Smoother would be better. Piston speed is still the big problem. |

An I6 is smoother because it has no dead time between power pulses. It is not what I would consider the best balanced engine. 90 degree V8 engines are probably one of the better balanced piston engines. Rotaries are the best balanced engine. ;D |

I am not much for futuristic appearance that things are going towards. I like to keep it stupid simple.

An I6 IS balanced.....100%. There are a few engines that have perfectly balanced primary and secondary forces. Off the top of my head i know the I6, flat 6, V12 and Flat 12 are balanced. There are a few more im sure. A 4 cylinders secondary forces make it unbalanced and it needs two balance shafts to make it a balanced system. A V8 is more balanced than a 4 cylinder but not as good as an inline 6. |

Inline 4 on a bike, smaller displacement and stroke = higher revs and lower torque Inline 4 on a car, larger displacement and stroke = lower revs and higher torque The balance doesn't have much of an effect on revs. A balanced engine will have better reliability but the revs won't improve much, if any. |
Re: Here's a new bike for all you to enjoy...
Yep. Thats pretty much what i said in my first post.
Also, they said its a narrow bore so i assume the stroke is pretty long. |

6 cyls = 5 more to break on boost before it stops moving
