Help with Symantec Corporate + Vista

I get Symantec Corporate through school for free. I had an XP version on my computer and upgraded (haha) to Vista. It says that it's not compatible and that I need to "upgrade" to the vista version. I download all of the software but it says it can't install it because the current anti-virus is still installed. I try to uninstall the bitch and it says it's not compatible. Anybody have any ideas?

Go back to XP as quickly as possible, vista sucks horribly, take it from someone who has had to deal with it for a bit.

That's not what I asked ::)

I "need" to have Vista on this computer for stupid reasons.

What are the stupid reasons why you "need" to use Vista? Anything you can do on Vista, you can do on XP with fewer problems. Even the games that require vista will work fine on xp with their appropriate cracks or patches.

You would honestly be way better off just going back to XP, but if you refuse to or "can't" then I would search google for the answer to your problem. Something like "uninstalling symantec in vista." If you absolutely must keep vista and can't find out how to remove the old version, and absolutely must use that antivirus (which last time I used was too bloated for my tastes), then I would do a fresh install of vista. "Upgrades" commonly cause problems because you're replacing the old OS with a new one, and not everything transfers over that smoothly...as you've seen.

vista rules. i like it a lot.

there are things you can do in vista you can't do in xp. like open a command prompt anytime you want in the middle of the screen 8)

I promise you that could be done with xp as well. Maybe not right out of the box, but it can be done with a registry hack or whatever.

In a few years, when all the incompatibilities and bugs are worked out, I'm sure vista will be great. When XP first came out it was more of a headache than something good, and windows vista is no different. What notable reasons are there for upgrading to vista? Not really any. It has some nice new stuff and looks fancy but doesn't improve the "pc experience" much compared to how many problems it causes. I installed it, some of my programs weren't compatible, I reinstalled xp.

In a year I'll probably install it, is there a service pack out for it yet?

i actually like vista better than xp personally.

there is only 1 program that i use that is not compatible.

i have never had to download a patch or a fix or anything like that.

for the one program that needs xp, i just set up a partition and loaded a dual boot for xp on it.

i personally have noticed that all of my programs run faster/smoother in Vista than on xp on the same machine.

the only real advise i can say is to load that bitch up with the max amount of RAM you can and get rid of all the shitty start up options such as gadgets and the sidebar.
