help, just blew up my gsr

Bought my 2000 gsr about 3 months ago, (stock except for an intake) from a private dealer and from the first day i had it CEL went on. I brought it back following day and they told me i needed crankshaft sensor, and a resinator. they fixed the sensor, but i declined to have resinator b/c it was a 50/50 warrenty and they were are clearly fukin retarded. they swore it wasnt the CAT. I went to a friends shop the day after and checked it myself, and sure enough a CAT code came up. so here it is like 2 months later. Note the car was burning good amount of oil as well, and they told me it was not.. after driving it for 15 minutes. friday nite i was driving it and it was fine. Saturday morning i drive to work and hear a knocking noise. Driving home from work it gets louder, and my car continues to shut off while driving. Had it towed and its sitting in my garage now. Knock is very loud. Cannot drive it.

I have no more warrenty on it from where i bought it, it was a 3000 mile warrenty. I am in the process of persuing the dealer. I know i spun a bearing but, Just wanted to get opinions from you guys to see what may have caused this to happen, becasue i was not beating on it. Car has 86,xxx miles on it.

thanks..

Sounds like it was wore out when you got it.

cat code, maybe from it burning so much oil that it fucked with the sensor?

a can of restore is awesome. If you have a slight knock its a great product to use to hide it for oh I dunno about 100-200 miles or so......

Oh wait. Damn.

I would delicatley ---- in his mailbox for a good 3-4 weeks for that one.

Tired motor/bad oil pump/lack of oil

Some say your fucked, I would say that you are blessed with a good reason to do a turbo buildup. O0
Now dry your tears, grow some balls and boost that ---- 8)

I encouraged him to post on here. I was thinking pump failure or maybe clogged pickup. I'm sure that motor did NOT always have 'just an intake'. Fuel rail cover has a big melt hole on it- looks like someone put the soldering gun on it. Bumper is also cut out. Regardless, I don't think an na motor with 85k should just pop like that. Dustin doesn't have the funds to build a block so I think he's just gonna look for a gsr bottom end. Found one with 75k for 325 and one with 40k for 600 a few hours away.

Ya a stock gsr motor w/ low mileage will not break like that even beating the ---- out of it. Only time I saw a low mileage gsr get rod knock was the motor literally had no oil in it when I replaced the motor.

Re: help, just blew up my gsr

yeah, money is tight rite now, although i am going to try and build on the side and just find another block for now as a quick fix, because it is my daily driver right now. the place i bought it from are cock suckers and i am not finished with them, but they will not warrenty and the mechanics are as good as nothing, not quite sure how they are even employeed there.

btw, if i knew where any of those people lived, i would leave a tasteful steamy pile in their mailbox everyday for as long as i feel, but i dont so ill have to deal with them some other way.

Dude its just a rod knock. SPec your rods out make sure they aint egg shapped and just go get a new crank and bearings. I spent like 200 total for my d. Didnt even have to remove the pistons.

yeah, well i sounds so simply if you know how to do it, but i never have and i dont plan on doing it myself.. And by the time i pay someone to do internal work on it, i am better off just buying a new bottom end. But if i knew what i was doing, i would not have even posted on here lol.

Look, buy one of the low mileage bottom ends Petey mentioned, and then give me your old bottom end for wasting our time here. All will be right as rain. Thank you. :)

aww, now i knew it was too good to be true to go through a thread on HMT without some kind of low comment... thank you lol, but as i said i might as well keep it myself, and build it on the side.

Tom-Guy 09-02-2008 07:05 PM

Re: help, just blew up my gsr

Hey, no fair! You stole my idea. I was going to keep it on the side and build it for myself. :(

Re: help, just blew up my gsr

damn, guess theres a chance i did... tell you what though, you can build yours on the left side, and ill build mine on the right... that way nothing is stolen... ITS FAIR!!! lol

I'd go with the LS bottom end, then you can boost as is. I've been away from the honda game for awhile but, isnt most of the power from a C1 in the head anyway. Why spend that much additional cash for a little higher compression?

LS ----------in Vtack ftw

Re: help, just blew up my gsr

Get a B20 short block from Chris; its only $500, then put you gsr head on.

Well they gave you a warranty so I don't think they were out to screw you. Just tough luck, it's a crap shoot on used cars.

600 for a bottom ends is way TOO MUCH :P get a pnp ls for 75$ and extra ---- to make it work ls /vtack ---- about 250 total with machine work where are you located?

Dude i have never done one either till i blew mine up, i just maned up bought my ---- found good diagrams and Torque wrenches and off i went. its a ------- lego car they only go in one way and you dont have to plastigauge ---- if its all stock ----. just dont use a turned crank, get a new one with new bearings. I mean are you gonna be building a 600whp monster or do you just need to get back on the road? It will be close enough for a 150 whp. n/a honda.

Re: help, just blew up my gsr

It's not like plastigauge is hard to use either.

for the crank ane bearings you dont even have to take the motor out of the car. do it from underneath.
