Yes they are. In reality you have bent valves. The valves will usually kiss the piston but will remove carbon and maybe a small indent nothing serious. I have never seen with my own eyes a honda motor not bend a valve when a tbelt slipped a couple teeth/broke. Those who say it didnt most likely have bent valves just never went through the process to check.

Dunno, I've had a timing belt come off, engine seemed fine after putting a new one on it. Non-vtec del slo. Didn't smoke or anything, seemed just like it was before. Also had a timing belt pop off a non-vtec integra at highway speeds, seemed fine after putting on a new one.

Jago is spot on. Try and see if you win. I've slipped two, and new belts took care of it without issues.

LS won't kiss valves if the belt goes at under 3000 rpms. I wouldn't be surprised if other engines are similar but it's going to be a crapshoot with the wussier the cam the less likely you are to bend anything.

my dohc zc was runnning fine after i snapped a timing belt at 4k rpm. it probably bent valves but it ran fine so i never cared

So finally got this bitch back home im going to need some input on my mystery. Well in the pictures you will see that my crank pulley was rubbing on my cover and ------- grinned into my block and oil pan???? I have no idea why this happend. I took the timing belt of a year ago to do the water pump but when i put it back together nothing ever was grinding. I would have heard something. But anyways i don't understand why my crank pulley would grind into my timing belt cover but be lined up correctly with the a/c pulley and alternator pulley, Please i really need some help with this i have no idea what just happened.

that sucks. I had a timing belt let go on me while doing about....10mph on a B16 and I was fine. There was a carbon imprint on the piston, but the dam thing still ran like a raped ape for another year and a half....and I did the little rubbing alcohol trick, and none dripped through....

Re: HELP EMERGANCY out of town

I still cant figure out why the stock pulley would just start rubbing the timing belt cover, timing belt and block for no reason. Do you guys think something else might have happened to the engine. It was really weird i was driving on the highway going about 70 in 5th gear, then i hit a slight bump my engine revved way up as if i had pushed the clutch in while i was still accelerating. Then i was like what the ---- let up on the gas then i hit the gas in and it just did the typical timing belt fell off rev down. Im afraid to drive it back to my house in Indianapolis its a 140 mile trip i don't want to get stuck again. thanks alot for the info so far. I did start it up but it was running kinda funny im going to check the compression here later.

Not that uncommon I have fixed a couple cars with the same thing that happened. Of course these are very high mileage cars so you cant complain at 250k miles if a pulley fails.

Re: HELP EMERGANCY out of town *WITH UPDATE*

yup looks like the weight was pressed in further in the crank pulley and finally gave out. that is ----.

Re: HELP EMERGANCY out of town *WITH UPDATE*

time to go back to the basics of HMT...add jb weld to it. Or just tack it in, in a couple spots. It can't throw the balance off toooo bad lol

Re: HELP EMERGANCY out of town *WITH UPDATE*

the less weight you have on the pulley, the less you need to worry about it being in balance >:D
