Help a brother out
1 Attachment(s)
Ok
So we are trying to data log and our laptop does not have the serial port needed for the wideband o-meter We bought this harrness thing to convert it to USB and still no worky. So how do we get the cable to work and has anyone else has had this problem? Attachment 10251 Any help guys? |
Re: Help a brother out
Check the COM ports and make sure you have the baud rate correct.

Re: Help a brother out
yeah, as soon as i plug in the usb to serial, it says the device is not recognized. i got the cable off of ebay for 10 bucks, but it didn't come with the drivers....so i've been online for like the last 4 hours looking for the right driver...i don't even know what brand this thing is, but it looks closest to the prolific usb to serial adapter. as soon as i can get the drivers and get my computer to acknowledge it via drivers, i'll be able to datalog...
I just can't find drivers and i'm about to kill babies |
Re: Help a brother out
diyautotune.com sells serial to usb converters that actually work.
|
Re: Help a brother out
this one would work great had i received the drivers install cd
|
Re: Help a brother out
Look closely at what is written on the chip(s) in the translucent plug. You can netsearch this ----, it's pretty basic just annoying.

Re: Help a brother out
ok thanks JD
we are doing that now ;) |

Post up here and I'll assist if you want.

Re: Help a brother out
Well apond taking your advice i looked really hard at the chips in the plug
I couldn't see them so i used a razor knife to cut back some ---- so i can see and it worked Its a maxium cable and we are trying to download the driver now Thanks

Re: Help a brother out
still doing research for this bs...
the chip in the rs-232 converter says maxim on it...i believe that its a MAXIM MAX232 which would make sense, but still no luck finding drivers about to just buy another cable and double check for drivers cd :7 :7 :7 :7 |
Re: Help a brother out
The MAX232 is a TTL to RS-232 converter, there should be another chip that converts it to USB. Any luck?
|
Re: Help a brother out
oo...yeah, well the max232 was the closest thing i could find. the chip says maxim, and i tried putting in the chip id, max21ecai or something like that...i friggin downloaded this driver update program that locates all the drivers your comp is missing....long shot, but i tried, and didn't work.
i don't know...i suck at life -schim 187 |
Re: Help a brother out
Toss it on a flatbed scanner, resolution cranked to the moon, and post the pics.
|
Re: Help a brother out
yeah the ---- only cost like three bucks, so i'm just gonna go buy a new one i guess w/drivers, thanks for the lookout jd

Re: Help a brother out
Search for one that has an FTDI chipset. The drivers for them are on FTDI's site, and the chipset works awesome.

Re: Help a brother out
Alright, so I went to radio shack today and bought a db-9 cable WITH drivers...got freelog open taking readings; getting a/f matching o-meter via logworks. When I try the loopback and sanity check, they both fail...thought I had the 4 pin header (hulog) on 180 out, so i turned it around...same response, but i get rpm and some other readings but none of them are coming close to matching the moates...
any ideas. also verified that baud rate and com port were the same on freelog and the input from the ecu |
Re: Help a brother out
OBD1 car? Have you cut J12?

We didn't cut anything, its the way it comes from Xenocron Are we suppose to hve j1 on or off |
Re: Help a brother out
if xeno chipped your board mostlikly he took it out already but double check it its j12 small resistor on the left side of your ecu holding the plugs away from you
http://www.-------------/install/Xenocron-ECUs.htm |

Re: Help a brother out
yeah, j12 has been removed, freelog is showing a/f ratio inversely of actual....for instance, a/f is at 15 with moates, its at 13 with freelog; if a/f is at 17 with moates, it drops to 12 w/freelog....sanity check is now saying it found crome data, but not the loop check, it fails....
i don't know, i'm confused, need to read up on some more stuff...thanks for the help |
Re: Help a brother out
my loopback would always fail for some reason you need to ajust the Wb offsett in the settings
|
Re: Help a brother out
Ground the wideband at the thermostat housing, your ground offset will be minimal and it won't change with load.
I have no idea what this loopback stuff is. You are running the ECU with something that has datalogging enabled, right? Because you can't log a stock ECU, or (with Crome) one that doesn't have datalogging code added in. |
Re: Help a brother out
could be it im not sure freelog sucks IMO some days it would work others it wouldnt
|
Re: Help a brother out
Gonna try a new ground...check the wb offset, will let you know
