This is stupid, and I have done this before but for some reason today it isnt going my way. I am switching heads on my D15b7. I thought I was on the compression stroke TDC of piston one but when I popped the head off, the pistons were all the same, all halfway down the cylinders. The valves on Piston one were shut, but for some reason I think I was on the power stroke of cylinder one because when I clicked the timing gear a bit the exhaust valves on number 1 popped open meaning piston one was on its way down from the power stroke. I am stumped now and when I tried to line the new head up and put the timing belt back on and turn the crank pulley by hand it won't go, as if my valves are hitting maybe? Help is needed and appreciated, sorry for the long post.

TDC #1 compression stroke can also be verified by the position of the Rotor in the dist. The rotor should be pointing at #1 spark plug pole.

just line up your crank pulley to the mark and then line up the cam gear to the "UP" mark and you will be good when you put back the head. It does NOT matter how you take it off as long as you line it up before you put it back tougheter. 98ctr

To make things worse one of my dizzy screws is stripped so I can't get the cap off. I'll try other methods after I finish lunch.
When I turn the crank with the timing belt not hooked to the timing gear the crank will only go so far. It needs to be connected
to the timing gear to spin nicely I suspect. But then I put the head on and it does the same thing. I don't think valves
are hitting because the timing gear doesn't even do one click. But maybe that is because the piston is preventing it from.
If I am correct in thinking piston 1 is going down on the power stroke shouldn't I be able to match the head up like that? I
though so, but am having trouble with that at the moment.

The crank won't spin when the timing gear is not hooked up, it's like the timing belt is binding up or something without something to spin it around up top.

i think they call it compression buddy. take out your spark plugs. maybe thats your problem. if all the valves are closed. how do u release the compression man?? take out your plugs and then try to spin it

The plugs are out man ;). yeah the compression stroke should make the crank pulley hard to turn, but it is harder than hard. It won't go. EDIT: Let this one die before someone figures out how stupid I was.

did u drop somthing in there by chance ? how long did the motor sit for? is it possoble the motors seized up?
