head resurfacing

hey guys,

taking my head to the machine shop to get it resurfaced, head lifted under boost and stretched the studs. got some arp's and a new head gasket. got the head off today, my haynes manual said to take the cam and rocker assembly out before you take the head off. i didn't the place im takin it too, not the machinist, said that they didnt know if i needed to have the cam out, you can turn the cam, still have the cam gear on, and you cant get it so a the valves are closed at the same time, so do i need to take the cam out to get the head resurfaced or can they jst resrface a portion of the head then turn the cam and do the rest? thanks

Nate

i always take the rockers and cam out because once you get it to the machine shop, if they need to take it apart they charge you assemby fee's, but you don't have to i guess.

all the valve must be closed when they resurface it and there are NO way to close all the valve with the cam on. so yes u will need to take it out.
FYI they can not just lap part of the head then turn cam and lap another part of it.LOL it must be resurfaced as a hoe. i mean whole :1

Yeah, like all these guy's are saying... pull the internals, Keep's you safe for diss-assembly fee's as well as let's them re-surface it all at once. Otherwise like Donald125 said not all the valves will be closed at the same time
