Harbor Freight your CDM Headquarters

Re: Harbor Freight your CDM Headquarters
Look around. An old used mill will be 10x more machine than the HF ----. Juts look around there's stuff out there. Go to old machine shops and ask them if they have anything, or know anybody, etc. I got a 18x60 gear head Clausing lathe with a 3 and 4 jaw chuck, steady rest, follower rest, and a few other bits for FREE. Old school was getting rid of some old equipment for new CNC ---- and I got it. Plus it's like new cause they never used the damn thing. Gear head and cuts standard and metric threads too.

Yeah that's actually what's happened with my drill press and bandsaw. I got both for $70. I went to woodcraft to get some stuff for them and the guy helping me offered me $500 for both right there. But yeah I'll check around cause there's probably a lot of people with junk lying around. Thanks for all the help on this guys.

and im a precision machinist.
i'd buy a brand new Thai made vertical mill, with a proper milling table.
they are available for very good prices these days and are certainly better than using a chinese shitheap, or a slopped out old machine.
dont ---- around with mill/drill combos or drill conversions, they are not rigid enough in the chassis, and as has already been said, the spindles dont like the side loads.
you can buy cutters and drills for cheap on the net as well, and i know you have the skills and tools to fab your own tooling if need be. measuring gear will also be useful.....
hit me up if need more info, Dan
