That's a good example of why you should NOT lighten a factory flywheel.

Sucks for him, that'll be a cool car....

I've lightened several stock flywheels, it just really depends on how much you take off. On Hondas I wouldnt go with anything lower than 12lbs.

Throughout the years I've worked on them, I've only seen one honda flywheel come apart and the guy had it around 9-10lbs. It flew through the radiator and front bumper.. Ugly ;)

I have seen the aftermath of a flywheel letting go at idle. Not sure what caused it, but it snapped an axel like nothing. And put a big dent in the rear crossmember. This was on a 2nd gen crx.

I had mined lightened by a air cooled VW guy, he stepped it to keep even thickness for strength, then balanced to 9-10k rpms. Balancing (or failure to) is usually the death of the flywheel.........
