guitar thread

So not sure how it happened but before I could hit post someone deleted teh guitar thread so here goes anyway.

I rock an epiphone. the cheap ass CDM version of Gibson giutars and honestly. its hands down the best guitar ive ever played. It cost abotu 2300 bucks brand new with a little 15 watt amp and removeable tattoos but the action is fast as ----, so I decided to pull some of the crappy CDM ---- out and put hot pick ups in it. now it screams it ass off with a semor duncan hotrail and a DOD death metal pedal through a laney 80 watt.

you want good fast cheap action go get you a cheap ass gibson or fender and swap out the pickups. that semor ducan was like 150 i think 200 installed at the shop and that was like a good 8-10 years ago but seriousl I have had folks put down ibanezs and Paul reed smiths to play my shitty ass epiphone.

Look for maple not rosewood on the fret board.

So there to whomever got their guitar thread deleted.

Re: guitar thread

I rock a peavey predator, which is a strat clone, which I love the action is good and the fret board is super smooth not rough like some guitars, this was like 200$ 10 years ago. I also have a takamine acoustic electric which I love. It was about $600 and sounds better than anything I can find under 1200. Both really good deals and awesome guitars.

Re: guitar thread

I love takamine and of course martins.

not that new bullshit either. old skool martins, the sound is just ....i dunno....better. hopefully I will get my grandpas one day. its an orginal i think from the 60's.

he ---- the first time i snatched it up drop D tuned it and started playing slayer. then he wanted me to show him how to do it. it was cool teaching my grandpa how to play seasons in the abyss or whatever it was.

Re: guitar thread

So, what's a good electric and acoustic starting guitar that's not a huge investment and you can grow with? I don't want a cheap POS that I'll get tired of or will crap out quickly or sounds like crap, but I don't want to spend hundreds more on something that only plays slightly better, if any.

honestly the pickups make teh guitar. as long as its a decent quiality wood any pick up can make it sound better. I would reccoment getting a nice cheap squire or epiphone (pick your flavor) and toss a pick up and a decent amp behind it. total investment like 500. 300 for guitar and 200 for pickup.

DOnt clown the stickers cause i did that like in 97.

I started doing that when i was like 12 when i got it. I sorta got carried away and now its a thing. the guitar is a 200 POS as far as to look at. the stickers couldnt have hurt lol. I think it would be different if it was a real strat or possibly a name brand gibson but meh. I dig it.

You want electric/acoustic, i.e. an acoustic with a pickup, or just either or.

Honestly get both, a cheap ass yamaha travel acoustic will have the nice fat action and thick strings you'll want to build hand strength. Play everything super clean on that, then get a sweet score from a pawn shop/used guitar dealer.

I found an 80's Jackson Soloist for $250 at a local pawnshop. It was ------- silver-purple with a glazed metal finish, Seymore Dunc's up front and a single EMG old style humbucker (screwface) in the rear, I re-wound it when I got it.

Sold that fucker for $600

if i had a couple Gs to throw around, id get the new robot guitar by gibson. sg style, non the less because ac/dc and angus young are the ----. check them out at their website or on youtube, pretty baller imo

Re: guitar thread

I rock a beat up Ibanez Gio with seymore duncan's and thin nickel steel Dean Markley strings...it's basically a gibson style knock off, but I've lowered the strings down ultra close to the fret board and reworked the neck and mounting point to get an ultra-fast and smooth action out of it. It works for now until I can afford an Ibanez Jem. :P

---- that ----, that thing looks like a clusterfuck. Not to mention the price is pretty lame, I'm a cheap ass. Once you get past like $600-800 guitars they all sound ------- good, so it's just superfluous decadence tacked on.

Nice, so it seems either way I go I'll have to spend a little extra money to get started but should be good for a while until I actually get good.

Werd, but don't be knocking the newer Martin's, this was the first guitar I bought and it's ------- awesome...

Id recommend this to anybody looking for a good acoustic/electric guitar that isn't too spendy. I paid $650 for it brand new at guitar center.

I just sold a bunch of my guitars...damn bills. I'm left with a Hofner only available in Germany and a La Petrie classical guitars. Then a no name old Japanese hollowbody and an old 40's radio turned into a amp with a homemade suitcase cabinet with 2 8" Jensen mod speakers. I've had Fender Strats, teles and a Gibson Melody Maker and i'm always leftover with this ------- guitar.

I rock a Johnson acoustic (after replacing my last one after a ---- face took it :7) and my brother has a Gibson Monarch or something like that. I can't play for ----. Was determined I would after picking up another one, but still haven't. I'll do it some day. Picked up a keyboard I have yet to learn also.

I have a few left that I pieced together throughout the years. Not really cheap...but they're built to my specs!

My strat

all maple 3 piece body, american trem w/ brass block, lace sensor hotgold pickups, clapton soft v neck, graphtech nut, american strat tuners, and all cloth wires, orange drop caps, cts 250k pots, wired by me. Action is very low and guitar is very hot and bright on the sound side! I use this mostly for blues.

My main axe now is a custom tele deluxe.

Mahogany neck, 60's les paul back, rosewood fretboard with custom radius, 6150 frets, MOP inlays, Gotoh staggered and locking vintage tuners, graphtech nut, 1 piece mahogany body routed for humbuckers, No contour cuts, 3 bolt micro tilt neck, white pearloid pickguard, gibson 57 classic picups, all cts 500k pots, switchcraft jacks, cloth wires, orange drop caps, shaller flat mount bridge. All wired like a Les Paul by me... Body and neck was all made by Warmoth.com and painted a Poly gloss black. Warmoth is EXCELLENT in quality...but you'll wait the 3 months for your ---- to be made. Best guitar I've put together ever! I love everything about it!

I play through my....soon to be sold Sovtek Mig-60 head. It uses 2 EL34's with 3 12ax7. Has a shared circuitry with a high and low channel. I run this through a traynor 1x12 w/ a celestion V30. Very good and light cab.

I also have my 2 fav. acoustics.... a 90's Takamine G-series Jumbo in a flame maple, mop inlays around the sound hole, and white bindings, and my Martin DC16GTE Premium with the fishman prefix plus system. Its solid mahogany back and sides w/ a spruce top. They sound great LIVE....but the martin shines a bit more on sound quality. It has a more balanced tone. I use the Takamine mainly for finger picking....and the Martin for strumming. I use them all for gigs all the time...and they have never failed me!

Not the best gear....but I love what I got.

heres a few cheap shots. Not the best.

i have always wanted to learn how to play guitar.. i was just browsing around ebay and came across this..
http://cgi.ebay.com/Acoustic-Electri...QQcmdZViewItem

or mayby this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=013

what do you think about this for a starter guitar.. not lookin to spend alot at all, i know the older and name brand guitars will turn out a better sound and all. but for a starter kit you think it will do ok?

ProzacOverdose 05-21-2008 02:35 PM

Re: guitar thread

Seriously...get a decent guitar. Cheap guitars are made with cheap wood, have crappy setups, and will HURT your fingers. Most crappyp guitars also have super high action. Look on craigslist for a used guitar from a decent company. You really get what you pay for......to a certain point. But paying for quality with guitars is very worth the $. Yamaha sells very nice quality guitars for about 100 bucks. Squires are ok...but not something I would recommend....except for price. They still play like ----. Ibanez, Epiphone, they have decent guitars. Find a friend that knows anything about guitars to go with you and play everything at guitar center...then look on ebay or craigslist for it. Don't buy 100 dollar no name pos crappers! BUT...I do have a very nice no name brand guitar that plays like a dream.....but...thats one in a blue moon! Things will only get more expensive as you get into it! GL

I'd say the higher the better. Builds your finger strength.

Like I said before cheap-o-coustic for rigorous practice and a decent electric when you can play some things that don't sound like noise. Electrics are more expressionistic so it's better to learn the rudiments on something you're not tempted to impromptu solo on. :y

Re: guitar thread

I started playing on a electric when I did my lessons and now I'm completely acoustic. You can hear your errors right away moreso then with a electric I think. I just play in the living room and my choice of music has change so rocking out on an electric with the family right doesn't always fly.

I have an Ibanez RG-270. I changed out the humbuckers for a set of Seymour Duncan pickups. The amp I have sucks ass, so I rarely play the damn thing.

I would love to own an older Martin acoustic. The action on them is awesome as the sound is amazing IMO.

I still want to get a set of drums, and a bass guitar, and learn to play piano, and the saxophone.

:P
