guess what i scored?

i just got a 89-91 hb civic, not sure of year. clean lookin car. needs some minor bodywork and has a d16a6 motor that has a spun bearing. know id like to know how cheap are good bearings, and how hard is it to change them? id like to keep the d16 in it but if not i can put my d15b1 into it. never done a swap or motor work besides clutch with this kind of car yet so its gonna be a learning experience. and ill get pics up as soon as possible.

damn i already had my response ready: "a 400 on your SATs"

anyway...if they say the bearing is toast, the crank very well could be too, so dont plan on just tossing a new set of bearings in there right yet

with an sat score of 400, he could be president! :o

if you got the car for free, then it was a score. if you paid money, tsk tsk cause you don't even know what year it is.

Re: guess what i scored?

you gotta tear apart the motor to get to the bearings, but the actual replacing is easy as ---- lol. old ones slide out, new ones slide in. and like ^ said you'll probably need a new crank if it spun a bearing.

This guy couldn't even fix his other civic when his tranny went out. There is no way hes up to clearancing a bottom end and doing everything right so the engine last more than 2 days.

hay rawr, ---- u because i did fix my civic and ive been driving it. i fixed it the day after the trany blew apart. dont judge me becasue u dont even know me man. and yes its goin to be my project car for now. ive bet anything ive done more motor swaps in any type of car that you have in your life. im a backyard mechanic and my ---- gets done right. the only reason i ever wanted to sell the civic and not fix it is because i have a lot of ---- goin on in my life right now.im in school right now for computer programming and im going to get ase certified so i can work at a dealership. my civic runs alot better than most would say even though it does look like a piece of ----. but to be back on topic here. i might replace the bearings, but instead i might just build the motor up and turbo it as my project. but for the time being im gonna swap in my d15b1 out of my current civic and call it a day.

So yeah, I was alittle bit of an ass. Sorry for that. but.......

1.) You made a post crying about a transmission. Saying you're going to give up hondas. That leads me to beleive you're not so experienced
2.) You have never cracked open a bottom end and think you're going to go to autozone and throw some bearings in. Then everythings going to be tits.
3.) How many motorswaps have you done? Ive changed over, or rebuilt about 90~ while working at polaris as a mechanic.
4.) Rebuilding a D series bottom end is ------- retarded. You'll spend more on the crank getting resurfaced, hoping your rods are not warped from being to hot, and buying all of the little things that you need to get when reassembling an engine. Than you would on a used running d16. And in the end it probably still wont last as long as the engine thats never been cracked open. Even if you think you have everything perfect. These engines arnt quite right after they've been cracked open. Unless you really know what your doing, and take your time to make sure everything is right.

Re: guess what i scored?

ive must have done over 100+ different swaps in cars over the past 9 years. ive rebuilt many chevy motors. i havent ventured into others yet becasue my parents have never owned anything non-chevy until recently and yes i was outta' line back when my tranny blew. it was my first day of school at ITT and i had no freakin idea what to do. "I" only had one running legalized car, mom had to work and my dad was still at work and the arrogant people around me here up in pontiac are assholes because they just say get the ---- out the road and fly past me while im tryin to figure out wtf is goin on. and i did some reading up on d16a6 motors and they are not worth the rebuild.im goin to just drop in my d15b1 out of my running civic into the shell of the other and it is a 91 i believe.pics will be up tomorrow as promised. got the digi tonight now i need batteries :S

9 year olds are badasses at rebuilding chevy motors. Are you rebuilding them vicariously through your dad?

Hey I just started at Itt wich one are you going to?

davcivic 06-26-2006 10:11 PM

Re: guess what i scored?

seatbealts on the door, 90-91, seatbelts on the window frame, 88-89. That's a start. tailights are a bit different too. 88-89 have more orange in them and a different shape. I believe 90-91 center tail reverse lights, the clear area goes to the side lights, the older ones, have a clear rectangle.

Check the Vin. Or just take pictures of the car and we'll help.

Re: guess what i scored?

I wouldn't even bother with buying new bearings and all that jazz. Just pull that mystery out and toss something else in and avoid the headache incase you buy bearing and install them and have them spin again a mile or two down the road. You can get another sohc for pennies if not what you would pay for a set of bearings where I'm from. I used to get a pretty good response when I asked for free sohc's. I got alot of B7's and B2's and B8's and one good A6 even. 8) THe best I got was a B8 with good axles and a manual P05 ecu for 20 bones.

Re: guess what i scored?

if you were speaking of the gray primered civic, it has a grand in new parts on it. actually i didnt pay a thing. itll be good though. im going to completely strip it down to bare shell fix all that i can with what ever money i have, and do upgrades as money can allow. im gettin a pay increase by like 2 bucks plus more hours so well see how ---- goes.

Re: guess what i scored?

both need work. But arent horrible.

78NOVA 06-28-2006 10:23 PM

Re: guess what i scored?

yes i know both need some work, but im finished with my car. the reason that being is my car has been hit in the front and rear before and wasnt properly fixed by the previous owner. so in turn lots of ---- dont fit right, and when i tried to fix it it didnt do much of difference. the 90 civic hb from inspection has never been hit, and is all original on the body. the interior has been swapped from an si i believe. the guy i got both cars from does half ass work. im surprised he actually got the car to run when he swapped over the d16a6 from the crx. now becasue of the motor and his half ass work i gotta revert everything back to og, by takin gparts from my car. to me its no biggie becasue i get a decently straight body with minor rust and someting to work on. ill have a project thread going as soon as i ge tthe title(which i hope is soon). :-\

Re: guess what i scored?

nice find. i just bought a blue 1991 Civic STD hatch. No ac, manual steering, manual locks and windows....its a perfect base car. i paid too much. but i wanted it. :1 i get it on friday, ill post up some pics in a different thread.

Re: guess what i scored?

well clean cars to come upon here in michigan is rough.lol. with the dramatic weather cahnges its like hell everyother week. and people are dumb so their ---- gets either broken into, or stolen completely and shits beat to hell which is usually the aftermath.

78NOVA 06-30-2006 10:03 PM

Re: guess what i scored?

well today i had ---- to do so i decided to get ---- done with this car.
nice frontend now
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...roly/front.jpg
nice rear too
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...broly/rear.jpg
d16a6 motor
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...roly/d16a6.jpg
interior pile-up
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3.../interior1.jpg
doors and interior still
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3.../interior2.jpg
Where it all took place and as it sits now.
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...y/workarea.jpg

so now comes fixin all the rust and ----. shaving the moldings too. ill be puttin in the motor after i get my little wire-tuck/shaved engine bay look done and the harness from my other civic in it. im also going to try to get some coilovers for it, jsut depends on money. if i can sell some parts from it when i transfer my other engine over ill post them up in the classifieds and try for turbo setup next. i have some crx parts such as axles, knuckles, rotors, pads, hood, motor/tranny, vergin ecu, wire harness, ef civic full radiator, and other parts later suck as front struts most likely and part out my other civic. let me know if anyone needs something. peace..
