Ground Kit
Has anybody run a ground kit here? I am obviously not looking for horsepower but I run an amp subs, and a 55watt/channel deck and i was thinking that this could help. I put in MSD ingniton on top of all that a while ago and i think it was too much. now the MSD is pulled and the car acts teh same with the electrical system bouncing all over the place and such. lights strobe, car doesnt charge but its totaly dependant on temperature. the colder it is the more fucked up it runs.
Trying to find out if this will help calm my ---- down. |
Re: Ground Kit
I don't have near the electrical load you do, but I noticed a difference when I made mine. Headlights didn't dim when the brakes or other electrical devices were on, interior lights as well for example.

Re: Ground Kit
ive always hated when the lights dim when the radio is playing loud. i'll check into one of those ground kits if i ever decide to get a radio lol

Re: Ground Kit
Well I have had the battery tested and alt tested and both are good so I am goign to grab one and swap out my fuse box for the last time and see if that solves my issues. if so the fucker will see boost next weekend provided it runs good on the basemap.
hoping to get some new suspension for Xmas as well. Maybe some adjustable Tokiko's and some sprint springs is abotu where im leaning. Anybody know a good spring that only drops like around 1"-1.5"? best bang for buck was sprint so far. |

Re: Ground Kit
You don't have to buy one, you can make one yourself from stereo cable and a grounding bar from home depot. cost you like $20 bucks or so.

Re: Ground Kit
Hmm.. What kind of car is this going on?

Thats a good tip about the grounding bar type ----. I will have to search on that. |
Re: Ground Kit
I made my own grounding kit. Using a grounding block from Homedepot. And 8gauge wires. I grounded to like 6-8 different spots on the motor. I dont know if there was any power gain or anything. But my car idled much smoother. :y

Trying to do it either this week or weekend. I'll post up pics when I figure it out. |
Re: Ground Kit
The valve cover should already have a ground.
|
Re: Ground Kit
I did a dizzy to chassis too, make sure the valve cover and tranny ones are still good also

Re: Ground Kit
i stole an actual spoon ground kit (not a knock off) from a friend. it was horrible, the clamp for he ground on the battery post seemed xtremely tight but in reality it was too lose and wasnt making a connection resulting in about 8 hours of pissed off. just replace the stock grounds with better wires and be done with it. hell make more grounds if you want, but keep away from the circle things on the battery posts.

Re: Ground Kit
ground kit and a capacitor
|
Re: Ground Kit
I need to do this, my car runs like ass because of the 21 year old ground wire and single 8 gauge cable..
|
Re: Ground Kit
i'm thinking about doing this but with either 4 or 6 gauge wires

Re: Ground Kit
What is your audio setup?
|
Re: Ground Kit
me? at the moment i don't even have a radio lol, but the car i'm buying this weekend will have one. my last car just had a kenwood deck, JL components, alpine rears and a 600 watt amp going to a 12" L7. everytime it would hit my lights would dim like a son of a bitch.

Re: Ground Kit
...and your having problems with dimming? I was running a 900 Watt Rockford amp, two Audiobahn 12"s, Pioneer Premiers 6.5's, Pioneer head unit 55x4 watts, 4 tweeters, and at one time a 7"TV and DVD player with no dimming on my Civic. I did however have some noise in the lines which a nice ground would have fixed.

Beofre I put in the MSD though it would dim out like a champ when the bass hit though, Even running it unbridged it would still suck out some power. Your statement gives me confidence though I was wondering if maybe a funky alt couldnt cause this but if your took all that mine should be ok with this. |
