Granpa turbo 0wnage

lol i never though chrysler would have a spirit r/t in that time, this ---- is turbo and put down 224hp with a 2,2l 16v engine!! holy shizzle!

my granpa use to have a ordinary spirit but imagine...that is almost the ultimate sleeper. I wonder how much you can crank the boost on this?

That's the engine redesigned for Chrysler by Lotus.

Re:Granpa turbo 0wnage

In 1989, the Dodge Spirit was introduced to provide reliable transportation in a traditionally styled four-door sedan - an expanded version of the Reliant. Suddenly, in 1991, Chrysler added a 224 horsepower (218 lb-ft) screamer of an engine, based on the old reliable 2.2 that usually produced 93 hp. This vehicle looked just like the standard grocery-getter family Spirit, except for the "R/T" after "Spirit" on the trunk lid, a little spoiler, and a decal on the fender trim. But most grocery-getters don't move from 0 to 60 faster than any other four-door sedan sold in the US in their model year.

Available only in 1991 and 1992, the Spirit R/T's 224 horsepower engine gave it a quarter-mile time of 14.5 seconds at 97 mph, and a top speed of 141 mph, making it the quickest four-door sedan in the world. The R/T had 1.67 net horsepower per cubic inch.

owned by the grocery getter.

Kinda like the Galant VR-4, drop the badges and you have a sleeper.

I have seen a few turbo lebarons out there.

I believe those engines are strong. I saw a guy one night come out to the local cruising spot with one of those late 80's woodgrain paneld minivan that had that lebaron motor in it running some pretty high boost. He roasted some early 90's toyota supra's ass.

Yeah. I've heard of those turbo'd caravans being able to run 12's with some simple ----. it's ------- crazy.

Re:Granpa turbo 0wnage

My grandma used to have a 87 dodge lancer turbo...slow as balls stock lol. Then my friend gave me a beat up 90 turbo duster...still slow as balls, but alotta fun when use a home-made MBC and crank those things up to 16psi ;D 0-35mph=owned by a tricycle...after ya get spooled up, hold on until your headgasket blows ;D

Re:Granpa turbo 0wnage

That 2.2 motor can handle a ton of boost stock. And with the 16 valve head designed by Lotus, it solved the breathing issues associated with the Chrysler 8 valve heads that severely limited what you could do with them.
14.5 sec stock. That is not slow.

The timing belts on those cars were an issue. Valve train too stiff and eats up timing belts rather fast.
