got a new car. 65 chevy II

so for the last year or so we've wanted to get rid of our imports and get old muscle so we don't have to worry about cops and smog. my crx is registered in nv and when i get pulled over it's a pain in the ass explaining why i have a CDL and NV reg.
so we started by selling my wifes 4dr civic and she got a 64 ford fairlane. i was gonna wait till i got my v8 rx7 running then sell my rx7 and crx to buy a chevy II or chevelle. well yesterday on craigslist i see an ad for a 65 nova for $800. says it runs good, but a little rich. so i go over and look at it (without the owner) and there is some minor swiss cheese going on in the fender, bottom of the doors and rear 1/4. no rust in the floor pan and nothing in the trunk. well after looking at it i decided that it wasn't the right car for me. so i go home and start thinking about it and went back over with the wife after she got off work and the nova was in the guys driveway with the hood popped. it wouldn't start... we told the guy i'm gonna drop a 350 in it anyway so it not running is not that big of a deal, but we had to think about it. we'll call him later that night. after 2 hours of thinking and the wife telling me to just get the damn car we called him up and headed back over. handed the man $700 and he handed me the keys to my new 65 nova. we called up AAA for the free tow. now i gotta figure out why it won't start or what i need to do to drop my 350 in it. here are the pics, i'm gonna take a few more later today. i was barefoot and the street was crazy hot so i didn't want to stand out there much longer. i'm a -----. sexy front Attachment 15691 sexy ass Attachment 15692 straight six Attachment 15693 impala tail lights, missing lights are in my garage. Attachment 15694 almost mint dash Attachment 15695 factory am radio and factory a/c. all the ac needs is the compressor to work Attachment 15696 big trunk, not as big as the fairlane though Attachment 15697 |

my plans for the near future is to get the L6 going. right now it will drive around the block, but has some issues. we think it's the cam timing keeping the intake valves open too long. i've decided to get rid of the stock steering setup, they are rear mounted so they require a front sump oil pan. there is a company (church boys racing) that makes a rack and pinion setup for the car, but it's $1700. it's a good looking setup, but this is mother ------- HMT. some guy named bill built his own back in 1994 or some ----. a few people have done his diy setup. i will be doing it as well, and i will post some pics here. it uses a chevette rack and dodge neon tie rod ends. pretty cool set up. i will be dropping a 350 in the car, all i need is a job so i can get some cash together. i'm shooting for high 11's with the car by the end of the year (09). my ultimate goal is either my nova or my 98 civic coupe running a 10 by 2010. the civic would be turbo the nova would be NA. thanks for the interest in my nova, i love the car and i'm trying to get it back on the road asap. now i gotta go work on it. oh if i can get the L6 running i might look into a turbo setup :l |
Re: got a new car. 65 chevy II
---- THIS INLINE 6, THE GOD DAMN CRANK PULLY WON'T COME OFF.
i've tried every tool possible, tomorrow i'm gonna fab up something, hoping it will work. if not.... gonna pull the pos and get the car ready for my 350. |
Re: got a new car. 65 chevy II
figure i'll update this
i got the pulley off so i could check the timing gears. the cam was off 2 teeth. so i go to fix it and i notice a bunch of broken ----. bent push rods, stuck lifters, fucked cam lobes. so i said ---- this L6 motor. i'm getting ready to pull out the motor, probably do it next week. some guy just gave me the oil pan i need to put the sbc in the car. it won't work with power steering so i still need to swap out for manual steering, but that's cool. |
Re: got a new car. 65 chevy II
You're going to have some manly forearms even with a manual rack.

Re: got a new car. 65 chevy II
i think i've only had one power steering car in my life. that was a 98 civic.
why would i need power steering on this one. i've driven it with power steering and it seemed too easy to turn. my wife's 64 fairlane is a lot bigger than my nova and it doesn't have power steering. she drives it daily. |
Re: got a new car. 65 chevy II
Its not the steering it`s the parking. But what do I know.

i have a saying "if you can't park it, don't buy it" i've never had a car i couldn't park. also like i said, my wife daily drives her fairlane and it doesn't have power steering. |
