lol, well time to start soldering. Yeah its not an Uberdata kit, its the Megasquirt DIY ECU. Its basically a whole bag of resistors that you gotta solder together yourself. Everything cost me $187 which isn't bad for a stand alone ECU that will work with any motor. It doesn't seem that bad to build becuase each resistor is labeled in its own bag. This is my secret project and unlike Jeff's secret projects, this won't be -----d sll over the internet till its done. :P

to the left you can see he has started the mental prepratory stage of the megasquirt system, to the right is the completion.

if I could solder good I might have tried it. I'm supposed to learn how to solder next week, we'll see how that goes.

yeah, i think i'm gonna start practing soldering as well.

The ECU case is in the bottom right hand corner of the pic. Its a machined case.

Wow, I could really ---- that solder job up. Just ask Projekteg. :P I couldn't imagine having to solder all that ---- togther.



I don't think I could fit that many empty beer bottles on my computer desk. You've got me beat. :(

i agree, i love soldering, just hate desoldering :P if honda ecu's came with desoldered joints, i could chip an ecu in about 5 minutes :-\ damn, i didn't know ms was that cheap. i was thinking about boosting my xterra to get a few ponies, ms would be a much better option than the afc which is what i had in mind since i'm just looking for about 5-6 psi on it.

My buddy just got megasquirt for his eclipse, except I think he had somebody else solder it up for him cause he has no skills, lol. From what little I have read that is suppossed to be a pretty good system. Make sure you take pics and do a good write up Whitey (sure you were planning on it) and I think you should forget the case and house it in a Whitey bend box ;D Good luck mang.

desoldering sucks balls I hate desoldering obd0 ecu's there the worst I didnt realize it was that cheap either kinda cool

lol, I was looking at this nicely machined case and thinking "where's the ghettoness in this?" And yeah you can buy them complete, I wanted to build it myself becuase with this new project I'm doing I wanted everything to be custom so I can say to people "Yeah I built the fuel injection system from scratch, starting with a pile of resistors for the ECU." Here's where you can buy it complete:

I ordered my stuff through Glen's Garage and it was worth it. This guy labels each resistor and really packages everything nicely so its not really that overwhelming to see a pile of resistors. I paid $187 for everything but I also bought a "stimulator" ;) What this does is acts like a running motor so each part of the circuit board you solder, you than test it out and if it works you move onto the next part. This way you don't built the whole ECU than find out it doesn't work :-\ So if I build another one (hopefully I will) it will only cost $140.

Is yours going to be set-up so that you can switch between high or low impedance injectors? He said his was soldered on to some type of board so he could do that so he would not be limited in injector choices. I don't know enough about it to know if that is actually a standard feature or if it is an option that you have to solder up. Seems as if if would be as easy as having dip switches that would bypass the resistors or something of that nature. I dunno. My buddy is one of those people, you just kinda listen and nod when he is talking, because if you question something, or state something outside of his opinion, you get the sermon as to why his idea of thinking is better ::)

This is a great system for people who bitch about not having engine management options for non-hondas. Hopefully I can do a good writeup for HMT v2 to get the word out on this and hopefully show that its not that complicated of a system

I had a kid proposition me to solder up a Megasquirt for him so I started looking at the various.

Definitely could be overwhelming ordering all those parts from Digikey so the Glen's Garage option is a good one.

You had to wait quite a while to receive this kit right?

What other options did you get (or could have)? There is a remote display option correct? and a remote tuning option too no?

It would def be fun trying to do a Megasquirt one of these days.

Yeah, I ordered mine from Glen's Garage. It actually only took me 4 hours to do, but I kept getting headaches from the solder.

Yeah Glen's garage definitely practices shipping 102. I ordered mine Dec 8th and I got it Feb 14. I guess I got lucky cause people who ordered before me still haven't gotten their yet. However I think it was worth the wait, he's only charging a couple more dollars than ordering just from digikey but everything is bagged and labeled, worth every penny.


There's alot of other options available with megasquirt. There is a new version of MS comming out soon and its supposed to be really good. You can also datalog with MS;

You can also use the coils off a 4g63. I'm not worried about Timing, for my project its not necessary yet I just need fuel

I think MS is good for anything non-Honda. I mean with Uberdata, Crome, and Turboedit there's really no reason to put it on a Honda it'll just complicate things. I don't consider myself a techy person either. I've been reading about MS for over a year and I finally got around to ordering it and assembly is actually really really easy.

I think MS is good for anything non-Honda. I mean with Uberdata, Crome, and Turboedit there's really no reason to put it on a Honda it'll just complicate things. I don't consider myself a techy person either. I've been reading about MS for over a year and I finally got around to ordering it and assembly is actually really really easy.

Yeah thats why im trying to upgrade from my obd-0 accord ecu to an obd-1 civic ecu so i can use uberdata etc, i was thinking of going standalone like ms but figured id be better off sticking to a honda ecu

My 90' Civic is OBD1, I swapped the entire wiring harness over which was the biggest pain in the ass :-\
