Judging by the fact he lowered it out on jacks, I assume he doesn't have a hoist.

Wow, reminds me of all my engine swaps. The last one I tore out had a broken cam cap too. :-\ No cracked sleeves though. :-X

couldn't you just have that hairline crack in the sleeve welded and then just file or sand that spot down so it won't leak? i don't think that area would touch the piston on the compression stroke.

Yeah...I dropped it out in pieces because I was by myself and had to make it manageable.

Honestly, I dont know how the crack in the sleeves could have happened. It's been like that for a while because I had been having these symptoms for some time. Its just small enough to only cause the compression to be 100 psi in that cylinder. Might have been one of those times she overheated in the summertime perhaps. Who knows...wonder what it would have made with a good sleeve.

I will have a hoist when I drop the other motor I have. There isnt a whole lot of space in my garage so all these parts are starting to pile up. There was one for sale at PepBoys yesterday for $119...I almost bought it.

ive pulled tons of motors out the bottom with just a jack, its just as easy with the trans on (in fact its quicker)

How heavy are B18's? Me and a friend can carry a B16 around for a short distance, heck I can almost carry a D15 around by myself. When I pull my motor I'll just drop the whole thing on my chest. 8)

I dunno how heavy they are...but I could barely move the block by myself. I could lift it off the ground an inch or so for a few brief seconds, but that sonafabitch was heavy.

I'm no heavyweight like Hotrex but I aint a small guy either.

nice job on the write up! and way to go on breaking that piece :P couldnt you just have used a big cresscent wrench?

anyway, i know how it feels do do all that ---- by yourself and put it back together. Its rewarding!
