If there was no paperwork, then to the state or police you technically didn't work for him. Good thing there is a fair amount of cover behind his house..

In alabama you can file with a state agency to have a contractor or engineer's license suspended.
by filing a complaint, once it goes under investigation the license is voided until that investigation is finished. leads to slaps on the wrists but can get someone's license revoked.
