Got a free B18A1 engine... what to do with it...
I really dont know; i loathe everything b-series because of its price compared to D but the ls motor is the budget B.
I'm not going to just swap it in because now i'm running a built D16 that i'm finally getting dialed in and running how I want it; but I also dont want to sell it as I know i'll never get a deal like this again... decisions decisions... So I guess my question is; you think i should start picking up parts for it like rods/pistons/b16 head/etc and build it up so when one day I blow the hell out of my D16 I can drop a monster B in; or you think I should hold on to it and hope F&F3 has some B18 powered abomination in it causing the price of B18s to shoot through the roof :) |
Re: Got a free B18A1 engine... what to do with it...
IMHO the only thing expensive about b-series is the trannys. You can find a b16 or LS for pretty cheap. Id keep it and start gathering parts for a b-series swap.

---- give me two...............
I think you should build it. a built B owns a built D, but if you already spent the time and money to build your D keep it. I would Build the LS, find a cheap shell and drop it in. You'll have two cars with good engines for cheap. If you find a blown 90-93 integra, you can probably buy it for $500-$800, take out the old engine and drop in the built one, or even stock LS. Then turn around and sell it for $3000, you made easy $2000. Same goes for any other Honda. or keep it as a beater. |

LS motors are worthless pieces of crap and everything b-series sucks.

it's also the initial cost of swapping the b into the civics, especially EF's. Mounts, Linkage, Axles, misc wiring ----.
you basically spend the same on Misc crap as you do the engine iteself. |

from what i hear an ls is a good turbo motor because of the relitively low compression compared to its VTEC counterparts

block and crank is about 90lbs
most of the weight is from the crank, block is pretty light, its aluminum for christs sake |
Re: Got a free B18A1 engine... what to do with it...
Dave Blundell dropped off the shorty today, from the old 97 B18B I gave him. You want it? There's a light groove in #1 cylinder, needs overhone. Make offer, and don't plan on paying me until you get your block because I'm about a slack ----------er. (Do you remember?) I'm only offering because if no one else will, my two weeks to get around to it would be a favor...
I'll run it by the machine shop next week, get Paul's stamp of approval.. probably needs .25mm oversize. |
