nope.. well i shouldnt say no buts its uber rare... the 6 bolt motors ( 1Gs) are much less prone to crank walk.. the 2G 7 bolt motors are the ones with problems.

themain problems with 1G dsms are drivetrain failure.. but thats usually only on high boost aplications and 6K AWD launches... they hold together if you baby them off the line

oh yeah I read about that the 1st gen aren't strong enough to hold up to increase boost. Thats it. Also I heard that the turbo in the 1st gen doesn't last long as well.

ya they are reliable if you get the right parts, buddies 99 gsx w/super 20g/3"dp/no cat and good management RIPS.. i think its at 22-24 psi, and it dosent build boost, its just like 2-3-4psi, then WHAM 24, the gauge just flies up there and the launches are pretty sweet, only thing is is that its an auto and clutch packs are loose as a gutter -----, but that will be fixed soon. i have only ridden in the car once but it is damn fast.

DSMs are not reliable. They are like most mistu cars ( my TT stealth included ) they make good-great power but are mantence hogs.

DSMs are in the top 5 cars that can go really fast in the "bang for buck" area. 15.1 in 1990 was pretty damn fast in a 4banger !!! The stangs back then were running high 14's !!! ( stock for stock of course ).

I do have one friend that just beats the crap outta his 98' FWD DSM and did just takes it !!!

He ran like 20psi on the stock turbo for like 3 years !! now he still has the stock injectors, but is running 20psi on a Big 16G !!! That car has like 120k miles now !!! Its the needle in the haystack of broken DSMs... Wait he did break a tranny... cost him $400 to replace it.

Gsts are decently quick but are damn prone to failure. My roomates 98 gst spyder blew the turbo at 60000 (stock boost) Then the maf senser went to ---- on him. He beats the crap out of it but still, its at stock boost cmon. I could understand if the boost was pumped up some but his car just ***** up.

i think as far as general reliability the first gens seem to be a little more sturdy... the cars do break trannys.... but what do you expect? its an AWD car on boost.... not many stock tranny would take repeated hard awd launches... as far as reliability..

i have a friend that has a 93 awd talon.... it runs 11.8's and after quite a few runs with a 16G @ 20+ psi and a 75 dry shot.. the headgasket is just now letting loose... otherwise its in great shape. he drives it everyday... i guess you just get good ones and bad ones?

no doubt the 1st gen are much more of a realiable car but it does have its faults. As far as awd and not being able to hold up to the boost..look at the evo made by the same company. See that shows me they are lazy. And the subaru.

Rsx are ------- slow. (not the type s) I ------- kicked one guys *** with my n/a civic. He had an automatic but i thought he would for sure take me

What I think it all boils down to is the buy a first gen if you want more power, and a second gen for looks.

1st Gen:
14B, Good BOV, 7.8:1 compression (turn the boost up higher stock)

2nd Gen:
T-2slow, Shitty plastic BOV, 8.5:1 compression.
