Good day/Bad day <<pics>>

The good day:
Helped a friend out by taking out his AEM and loading up Uberdata. DelSol w/ Turbo B16 HMT style. Hooked up my WB and gave it a decent street tune.

Car running good. Small stumbles on tip in/out but nothing serious. Id put up some vid, but I left my FireWire cable at my dads. :P

Bad Day:

It started off good atleast.
Heres my old T3 next to my shiny new snail. SC61 baby.

Put in my shorty radiator with some saws-all help, and some new brackets. Put my Hdata back in so I could datalog the A/F and exact timing that was being achieved.
First impressions? Holy ---- this thing takes FOREVER to spool on a 1.6l lol. I started out at about 10psi, then turned it up abit. As usual, I got some boost creep to 14psi on the high cam. Boy did it feel good, until I saw the small cloud of smoke behind the car, lol. I can usually hear it ping no problem, but not this time. #3 ringlands as usual.

As usual I need sleep and a haircut.

Time for another round of upgrades. Coming back bigger and better. :)

What boost controller are you using?? A 4 psi spike is a ton!! I can just imagine how it would feel if my car spiked from 9 to 13.

leed 04-29-2004 03:29 AM

Re:Good day/Bad day <<pics>>

Naa, on 10psi there is no creep. I turned it up a bit and it seemed like it did. Hell it was hard to tell if it was creep, or the fact that it wouldnt hit full boost till cross-over. Im using a TurboXS hooked up in a very non-conventional way. Notice how there are lines on both the top and bottom of my Deltagate...

some cretivity and an angle grinder works well. i just cut out some of the bracing ---- under the hood, works great...

Spenser 04-29-2004 12:11 PM

Re:Good day/Bad day <<pics>>

yeah, I was gona put one in my car, but the rad is taller, and you really have to cut and weld and ----, Just go with a dual core Chevy firefly rad, every------- junkyard is full of them.

Re:Good day/Bad day <<pics>>

you sure on that firefly? the bottom radiator hose outlet is on the wrong side... :-\

Good write up... haha that charge pipe picture is funny. Maybe you should post this up on honda-tech? Specifically the part about removing the AEM and installing uberdata. ;D

Sucks about your motor cause I really wanted to race you. Hopefully by the time we do race my car will be bigger and better too. :)

Great write up!

What's gonna happen to the AEM comp?

leed 04-30-2004 01:49 AM

Re:Good day/Bad day <<pics>>

Yeah, the AEM is being sold.

And yes, thats the same Del Sol from one of my burnout videos. :)

The shorty radiator isnt too bad. I elected to 'notch' the lower member to get it to sit a bit lower w/ less tilt. This included lopping off the stock lower mount. An upper mount was made.
As far as cooling goes, I logged water temp for about 6-7 full on panty-ripper runs. The car was at 198 at the start, dropped to 196 driving around and had a peak of 199 during the runs. (It should be noted that I am still running a drilled thermostat :) Nothing serious, about 4 1/4" holes)

And Dustin, Im sure an SC34 would be a perfect match for you. A bit pricey though, I only bought this because I got a JEW deal, and Ill never run out of turbo again. :)

On a 3rd gear pull from down low, I hit 5psi at 5k, and 10psi at 6k.

btw my setup is a LSVTEC now....well it will be when the car is running again... ::) soon as i get some more money together i will be watching H-T like a hawk when the time comes, so far the best is 679bucks new...

leed 04-30-2004 02:17 AM

Re:Good day/Bad day <<pics>>

679 is still too much. Find a new/used one yo'
The DelSol is running a basic T3/4e w/ a .63 exh. side, and I was very suprised at how fast it spooled. Considering how cheap they can be picked up these days, It might be something to look into.

Aside from the price that I found, my decision was based on the expected appetite of my new project.

shooting for 600-650shipped on a SC...
150-300 for standad T3/T4 style (i can get a rebuild for cheap)...

Hey dave, you and me can race now.. since were both on 3 cylinders, I was doing some pretty hard runs last night and I think the ring lands are gone on the flat-rate b18.

omg! are you serious? just stick with your afc or fmu, whichever one of the two you're using. this has already been explained to you in depth and you still don't understand ???
