God Damn WRX transmissions, motherfuckers....
Yeah I just got home, and I just blew 2nd and 3rd. If I was racing I would take it like nothing, ----. But I was turning to my street doing 30mph maybe in 2nd, then shifted to 3rd at around 45mph and it poped out. I was like okay that's weird. Put it back in, it just revs. ----!!! Got home in 4th gear. Then after parking I tried to put it in 2nd, it won't even go in.
I guess the transmission did'nt like the 300whp and 300 lb/tq. Damn..... So I need something done. JDM STi gearset + install = $2000 STi US trans = $4000 Or take everything out and trade the bitch in. ----..... At least I still have the civic..... Sorry about the rant. It suck balls to me. |

---- man, that sucks :-\ The only thing I wouldn't do is buy the 4k transmission.. I'd personally trade it in :-\ but good luck to you regardless.

id trade it in, ---- it if it cant handle the power. you would deffinatly be hurt if you droped 4k on a tranny and it did the same again.

why buy the bottom line model and try to make it like the top line model? you know those trannies cant take power for ----, yet you still try to make it take the power

Don't buy ---- until you pull it off and look at it. You very easily could have just shattered the pressure plate or be having other woes. If there is one thing I have learned through cars is never to count your chickens before they hatch. Maybe it is gears afterall, but just take one thing at a time. ;)

2nd I don't like the 2004-2005 STi front, my car WAS the top of the line for it's year model and model style 3rd I made more power than an STi for less money for around 50k miles, 21 psi was fun. So the abuse and the tranny breaking is like blowing a d-series from overboosting, Why make the bottom line like the top line? Everyone here then needs to get Type R's and boost them. That just doesn't make sense. Thanks for the comments by the way. The 2k gearset is an sti set from japan that will hold 350whp easy. The 4k STi tranny is bullet proof. But still that's a lot of money. I might try to get a factory replacement, used transmission somewhere and take it back to stock then trade it in. But I'll be rocking the civic for a while either way. I don't have 4k for a trans......Oh well...... |

Trade it. Sorry I just dont like any model subu. They are all fugly IMO. Not to mention repair costs. That there is the biggest deterent.

Oh yeah I'll check the clutch and pressure plate, but they are somewhat new, it's an Exedy stage 2 street kit, that should hold around 400lb/tq and it has been working great.
The thing that bugs me is that at that point I wasn't even getting on it, I was driving it like a grandma. Oh well.. ---- it.... |

If you don't mind helping a fellow HMT'er I would appreciate it. Let me know. I am now searching around the forums. I know the Subaru mechanic and one of the Orlando dealers, he might be able to just get me the 2 gears and break it appart, rebuild it and then I can sell it.

That sucks to hear but if I were you I wouldn't bother with the STI tranny as a local guy here has a STI and it just got a rebuilt tranny at about 80,000kms or 50,000miles.He mainly races autocross and sometimes friday night street legals and it has some basic upgrades like exh,ecu,intake etc so it's probably pushing 350-400 range.Im not sure if there is a AWD car made other than Porsches etc that can hold up to hard driving.

Have you tried calling some engine importers who get sube engines? Hell I don't even think STI front clips go for that much.

It could be something stupid like the linkage. Check the obvious ---- first. Hell depending on your clutch maybe your flywheel bolts have backed out, or something besides the tranny is fucked.
300hp isn't a lot. I have lots and lots of friends with WRX trannies that have torn them apart on the tracks weekend after weekend and all they ruined were clutches. |

i have friends with sti's that have blown the rear diff after 8k miles on the stock clutch, if that says anything

I will check some things, but keep in mind 1st, 4th and 5th still work fine. and there's a little grinding noise when driving it, like loose pieces just jumping around the case.
If it would just not go in gear, then I would think about it being the clutch, or shifter or anything else. |

Sorry to hear that. I was reading up on wrx's and they say the 02 trannys are really weak. What if you just swapped in another 02 tranny or 03 and then sell it?

If I get Jeff's brother's tranny, I'll go all out on this car when I get the money. What held me back at 300whp was the weak ass transmission. If I get the STi one I'll build that fucker out.
I'm just wainting on Jeff getting back to me about it. It sucks driving with no AC in Florida, the hatch has no AC and it's still 90+ degrees out here. |

Weird, ok I'll try to get down there and check it out. It's just not like dropping a honda trans. This thing is a bitch.
I do have a new Exedy stage 2 street kit in there, new clutch and PP that where supposed to hold the power fine. |
