Funny Noises from Engine
I have a 1990 Civic DX Hatchback. I had a burnt valve so I replaced the head. A friend of mine gave me a head off of a 1994 Civic 1.5L that had a mild cam installed in it already. I dont know what kind of cam it is but it does have considerably more lift than stock.
Anyway, I am getting this really loud "valvetrain" noise. I adjust to valve once I put it on to .020 intake and .025 exhaust while the engine was cold. The noise is so loud it is kind of embarassing. OK, I am wondering what could be causing this. Could it be a property of this cam to make a lot of noise? Or could I have acidentally clogged up my oil control jet when I was putting the head back on. I used Honda Bond around the oil passages. Is is possible that no oil is getting to the valve train? The noise is most prominent when at idle or under acceleration. I really dont hear it too much when cruising at a constant speed. I am pretty sure that the noise is not detonation. I set the timing at 16 degrees BTDC and I run 92 octane gas. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am getting tired of the noise :-\ Jon Black |

adjust your valve lash. that is the sound of the rocker arms slapping the valve stem.
