goto http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ and get ad-aware and get all that spy ware off your comp, then get a real pop up blocker like the google toolbar, most of the other ones are spyware

dude i got ad-aware and it worked wounders for my computer. my ---- was slow as all hell, after i ran it, it took over 3000 bullshit little mining programs off. now im good to go ;)

Re:FUCKIN POPUPS (&^#$)&%)*@&#$

Use add aware in combination with Spybot to get everything. Make sure you update the definition files for both before running though. Most of those popup blocker are a joke and some of them actually contain spyware. I agree with the google toolbar. Anytime I'm at a computer that I don't have direct control over, I install the google toolbar and use it while surfing. Firefox is a good alternative on winblows systems. It's fast and contains a built-in popup blocker that is fairly configurable.

Re:FUCKIN POPUPS (&^#$)&%)*@&#$

I also use spybot and adaware often. Always make sure you get the updates before you run it.

If you ran both of those and still have a problem with popups go here:
http://spywareinfo.com/
There is an abudance of information at this site regarding spyware and similar annoying crap.

I had it really bad on my PC once and had to run their "hijackthis.exe" program and then post up the log results in their forum where someone tells you how to fix your PC. I had to go in and change some registry items and remove some files and now it's fine. It's a great website with a lot of information.

Ad-Aware is a very good program. I would say use that every day (especially if you have an always-on connection, like me). You can schedule for times it can scan and everything, so at 9 A.M. while you're at work or whatnot, it could be searching and deleting crap off your pc. Also, if you don't like IE, download Mozilla Firefox, its great and comes with pop-up blocker, along with a range of other things. (And it's free, too!)

Dammit! :-X I got something nasty today on my one computer and adaware is not having a good time fixing it.

I hate it when using IE and you stumble upon a website and it starts freezing and you know there's some nasty code getting transferred, but you can't do a damn thing about it. Then it takes a while for task manager to close IE out. Next thing you know you have a "new toolbar". >:(

Grrrrr...just venting...because I am cleaning this ---- up now and I'm posting from my server.

Adware doesn't clean everything, you need to also run spysweeper and spybot (search & destroy). Only then everything will be cleaned. The windows popups can be disabled thru your registry, half the ------- popups and other fuckups of windows XP can all be remedied thru your registry.

Run zonealarm pro and you'll be good to go for all other popups. Further things to enhance your computer would be editing out your HOSTS file to block unwanted crappy ad servers.

Ok, you need the spyware removing trio:

http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10...ml?tag=lst-0-1

http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=mirrors

http://www.webroot.com/download/tria...1749726925.exe

Then go find you some zonealarms pro off your favorite p2p network. BLAM, you're all hooked up.

just do what i do every few months REFORMAT, its fun and you learn about computers and sometimes its easier/quicker than trying to troubleshoot.

PureCRXtasy 06-12-2004 05:32 PM

Re:FUCKIN POPUPS (&^#$)&%)*@&#$

Or you could do what I do..

Format the drive, install OS of choice and all necessary software/drivers/plug-ins/etc. *Ghost that bitch onto a removable harddrive or cd or whatever. Then, if you run into any uncurable problems the solution is just 10-20 mins away ;) Makes it much nicer for some deep level registry hacking. Hmm. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.. I don't need that.. delete.. ;D

*Ghost - Program that does a sector level copy of a hardrive/partition and saves to a single image file that can be stored on another drive/cd. It's like a custom made system restore disk. Program is made my Norton.. there are others.. I prefer Ghost.

the way i see it i reformat and install since by that time new drivers and new versions of the programs i use are out so it all is gravy in the end

PureCRXtasy 06-12-2004 11:23 PM

Re:FUCKIN POPUPS (&^#$)&%)*@&#$

A reformat and re-install for me takes over 5 hours. Driver updates only take about 15 mins total so it's definately worth it. Plus, I usually re-ghost once a week or so and update the image. I keep the last 3 images in a rotating fashion so if the last one was bad, I can go back to the previous weeks. It's a cheap and effective backup scheme for home users.

All I did was clicked on Quadnie's links and downloaded all the software and now my computer is faster than ever! Ha ha ha.. Thanks mang! My friend ask me how I got it fixed, I told him I fixed it through homemadeturbo. He is like.... "huh?... on a turbo forum?... WTF?"... ha ha ha...

Yeah, HMT attracks a few computer geeks like me and PureCRXtasy. Glad I could help. If anyone needs a free retail version of Mcafee virus scanner, PM me.

I was told by a couple of my buddies to run Norton Ghost, I'll probably start imaging when I get my new computer built.

Re:FUCKIN POPUPS (&^#$)&%)*@&#$

good luck ghosting somebodies 100+ gig, full of useless ---- hard drive. if you really wanted to do that, maybe you might want to have separate partitions on your drive. have a very small system partition(aka c drive), and partition the rest of the drive just for storage space. if something goes wrong, all of your personal data will be safe on a "d drive" or whatever letter you want to call it. this way you can just ghost your system settings and not have to waste time restoring 80 gigs of porn.

Re:FUCKIN POPUPS (&^#$)&%)*@&#$

I don't know what the hell you are talking about. We are talking about ghosting OS + Updates + Drivers.. maybe some small core applications.

You really think I'm going to ghost all my videogames and porn? And if I had all this extra hard drive space for worthless partitions then I'll just store the 80+ gigs of porn (or whatever) on it so I can always have immediate access to it.

We aren't talking about just ghosting anybodies computer, like I'm going to go around and offer to ghost everyones computer.. ---- that, the people can just flash the OS themselves and sit thru all the windows updates. We are only talking about ghosting are own machines for us power users who need fresh formats for whatever reasons.

biggmike 06-13-2004 07:55 PM

Re:FUCKIN POPUPS (&^#$)&%)*@&#$

on peoples computers that they dont want me to reformat i run SpyBot S&D and TrendMicro.com free virus scan and this usually fixes everything for them until they download more spyware and viruses and call me in a few months again. ive seen it so bad that a 2+ghz computer with 512mb of memory runs slower than my 25mhz 486 i had.

Re:FUCKIN POPUPS (&^#$)&%)*@&#$

Im currently using Opera's browser. I like it alot. Seems immune to pop-ups. I like its features as well. The DL manager is nice.

Stop using WinMX and Imesh for your porn needs, that will help out :P

that is exactly what i am talking about. putting your personal data on a separate partition would prove useful to make it a simpler operation. this way, you can just take an image of your cdrive(aka [OS + Updates + Drivers] - personal data/video games/porn), and if your system configuration gets blown you can just use that image and leave the other partition alone.

You really think I'm going to ghost all my videogames and porn? And if I had all this extra hard drive space for worthless partitions then I'll just store the 80+ gigs of porn (or whatever) on it so I can always have immediate access to it.

huh???? last time i checked, "worthless partitions" did not take up any "extra" hard drive space. if you dont cut up a pie, or if you cut it into four pieces, it is still the same amount of pie. it still holds the same amount of crust, filling, etc. maybe you misunderstood me, or i misunderstood you, but what i mean to say is to keep all of your data on a separate partition(on the same drive). this way your data can be more organized and you wont waste time imaging video games/porn/mp3s/etc.

We aren't talking about just ghosting anybodies computer, like I'm going to go around and offer to ghost everyones computer.. ---- that, the people can just flash the OS themselves and sit thru all the windows updates. i wasnt talking about that either. most end users are not going to have their hard drives chopped up into partitions. however, partitioning your drive into multiple partitions is a great way to keep things organized and avoid potential headaches. your cdrive is fucked? ok then, erase ALL data on the cdrive and then restore the image. your personal ---- will never get touched because it resides on a separate partition, thereby eliminating possible data loss.
