I give that a 7 on a scale of 1-10. I understand the motivation, and approve of the result, but the guns were kinda anti-climactic after my senses have been trained by Hollywood Explosions. Thermite would have been good, or start a small fire inside the car after packing it with propane cylinders....

Magnesium is common as backpack frame tubes, or was at one time. Just filings from that... the magnesium burns hot and bright, and ignites the rust. It's not a restricted material AFAIK, poke around.

Well i would have gone all out and taken one of these
the green one
packed it full of gun powder and the rest is history, that would have left a big ole crater somewhere in the woods

You only need a very small filing of magnesium to get the rust started. Also talk to a chem prof, magnesium is in labs everywhere in ribbon form for starting reactions like the rust stuff.
