Yeah it said they wear on start up so they'd last long on an airplane or something that gets started and stays on for really long periods time. Starting and stopping in a car would probably take them out pretty quick.

I don't see why not run a little air compressor of a belt or something and run it with a clutch from an ac compressor so it cycles on and off as it's needed.

we need magnetic levetation for bearings.

that causes a lot of electrical problems in cars too.... a charged magnetic field, spinning.... have fun without a radio or anything along those lines

Like to reversed magnents so basically the bearing is supsended by a magnetic field thuse no contacting surfaces.
Ive never heard of that but it seems like it could work. magnents are really power full if you add some current it could work I guess.

*L* good point. It would probably be hard to shield something like that. although doesn't every electric motor cause the same thing.

most motors do yes... but i think this would take things to an extreme

in fact in one of teh labs at school we have a spinn top thing that spins in the air in a magnetic field, the little fucker will spin for 10 minutes before falling

I have needle bearings in my race cars suspension, as a replacement for bushings. the ride is so amazingly smooth.. for a car so stiff.

that sounds pretty cool. Like some crazy thing you'd see in an alchemist's lab.

Yeah Just imagine the noise you'd get coming through your speakers. I used some home stereo rca's in an emergency situation one time. this could probably cause a good set to pick up noise.
