$4 billion dollars just to discover what MIGHT have happened. WTF? Use that money for something that will actually help us.

They have a live webcam at the LHC so you can see what's going on, it's pretty sweet to see everything even if there isn't much movement sometimes.

Re: Fuck 2012, we'll give it a jump start
The best things to come from experimental physics aren't necessarily the things they're trying to prove or disprove... the best things are developments in techniques, materials, and methods. Just building stuff like this and getting it to work as planned after doing a bunch of theoretical stuff is a feat. I'm talking about things like networking schemes, structural engineering, development of better conductors and microprocessors etc. However I think the biggest waste of it is how much energy particle physics uses, I don't remember the exact cost of running LHC per hour but it's a ton.

Re: Fuck 2012, we'll give it a jump start
Einstein accidentally discovered dark energy 100 ------- years ago. We are just now trying to prove it. :1
The numbers I saw from the US in terms of cash-money were closer to the $10 Billion range. :l ---- you know how many CRX's that would buy? We could put them back into production... :y |

There's so much information that comes from a particle accelerator scientist tried to come up with a way to share it all. From that, the internet was invented. Saying that nothing useful comes from these types of experiments is very Nigel. |
Re: Fuck 2012, we'll give it a jump start
You have hundreds of physicists from dozens of countries that all seem to agree that the LHC is going to be the best use for their money. If you only knew the things you have today becuase of research into these fields.
