FTO or S2K??!?!??

what does everyone think then? mitsibishi FTO or honda S2k? Ive never driven a mitsibishi, willing to give them a chance thou as they make EVO's and are jap afterall. Test drove the s2000 and it was the dogs dangleys!

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

i'm a honda fan but i'd have to go with fto it's a better over all performance car than the s2k

J-SMITH69 08-01-2003 02:43 AM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

s2ks are shitty if you ask me... revving to 7k to make some power. thats GAY. they're pretty quick though. but they get shitty gas mileage for their performance.

i heard that just driving around normal in a s2k sucks because they're basically no tourqe wonders... you gotta rev the ---- out of it to move.

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

whats the best spec FTO you can get anyone know? 0-60? I like the s2k being a honda fan and all but its a shame there only two seats... i need four hence the FTO. are mitsibishi and honda on par for reliability?
thanks ;D

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

pretty much any car you buy nowadays will be damn reliable. but then again i am usto dealing with older cars like crx's and other heavly modified cars.

they look pretty much the same to me.. but i would go with a s2k b/c i know there are engine internals out there to lower the compression and an inline 4 is the easiest to build a turbo manifold for.

however with more work a single t4 could be setup on that 24V 2L Mivec.

i would go with the inline 4 honda.. not because i am all about hondas but because i like I4's and I6's better.

random-strike are you telling me that you dont like driving at high rpm? thats what muscle cars are for not imports, thats like complaining that your big block dosen't make power after 7k.

djnikko 08-01-2003 09:44 AM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

i think i'll go with the honda, fairly impractical for my everyday use but fun!

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

What is an fto? The only time I ever saw that name was on grand tourismo.. Are you in the US? From what I get from the other post the fto is a v6.. I think I would go with that one. Assuming its also rwd.. Fwd blows ass.

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

yes thats exactly what i'm telling you. driving around revving the ---- out of your car to move is homo. it makes you look stupid because you're making your engine work so hard just to move.

if i wanted my bb to make power past 7k i could easily.

is the i4 in the s2k facing towards the back? cause its RWD?

Yes, it is longitudaly mounted.

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

only reason i choose import is b/c i can make it pretty quick straight line and whip ass thru the turns. camaro on a road course.. ya right.

so you like to drive around at low rpms? wow that’s sweet i can do that in my mom's volvo. now thats homo. every project car on this site is a high revving import.. are you lost, this is homemadeturbo.com

what kind of badass turbo do you have on your domestic that makes all this sweet low end i keep hearing about?

fiero_god 08-01-2003 09:17 PM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

exxxxhummmm ........not every project car here is a high reving imp mine only goes to 6g and i like it ,lots of low end tourqe :P.

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

i don't need any power adder. if i had 3gs i could drop it on a g machine chassis from chassis works. and out corner anything you have, and out accelerate. and out brake. only about 3 grand for a 1st gen camaro chassis. with corvette disk brakes. with this package it would outhandle or at least be par with any import car. and see yah in the straights

also a 300 shot of nitrious is extremly easy to install. but then i would break every peice of drive train, even more than i do now.

my camaro already handles very well with poly mounts/bushings/and a huge swaybar. but the real reason i could not race it on a roadcourse is simply this: two 100+mph slowdowns and the drum brakes would be TOAST. they would be so hot they wouldn't work.

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

wow that setup looks nice, too bad it costs 3g, my 90 crx si was $650, and the sportline springs were $50 from a friend. and it out handles your car. with 3k into the motor my crx would waste your mulletmobile.

this is a stupid arguement, you have no turbo and post how superior your car is and how crappy high reving cars are. wonderful wow, i am going out to buy a 6.6l trans am that makes 200hp. oh wait no i will keep my 30+ mpg.

your missing something here homemadeturbo.com

J-SMITH69 08-01-2003 10:59 PM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

oops my bad, the g machine chassis is $1,395 now. keep tryin!

http://www.cachassisworks.com/

your crx would not outhandle my camaro with that chassis. sorry. try again. crx have the worst weight dist of any newer car i have ever seen. what do you think your crx will run with 3k in it? about 11flat? it'll have to.

500 dollars for a NOS kit. and with jetting the sky is the limit. my engine is already built. and revs to past 7k how it is. and with a different intake manifold and bigger headers it would rev even higher. 3k in your motor, 1k in management, 3k in turbo setup, 1k in tranny/axels/all power train. the cost goes up and up. by the time you spool that turbo you already lost. its very hard to play catch up unless you completly overpower the other car.

the plain fact is an s2k is not a car for cruising around in. it gets terrible gas mileage for making 240hp. 6.6l? that is 383? no trans ams come with 383s. 5.7l is 350. and the ls1 is what 341ci or something?

i'd race in you on a road course with my drum brakes, for 2 laps. by the 2nd i'd be ready to lap you.

download and watch these movies, of a 383ci/lt1 stroked firebird dishing out what have you on all these import cars on a road course. sears point to be exact.

http://www.lingenfelter.com/images/loserx7spins.mpeg
http://www.lingenfelter.com/images/passnthump.mpeg
http://www.lingenfelter.com/images/w...ouldipass.mpeg

don't get me started on how a z06 corvette stomps any car on a road course. even ones with 250more hp and cost 75k more.

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

oh ya 6.6l trans am is the 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 403ci, my dads friend has one its fun to do burnouts in, 200hp / 400ft lbs

i am not saying there is a replacement for displacement, or imports are cheaper to build, no ------ way on that one.

there is a challenge in making I4 1.6l's go fast.

i am doing my car cheap ass because i am a poor college student. the goal was to build something to beat a c5 corvette for under 5g including the price of the car. ie beat a 13.3.

Well i gave up on that and bought rims, a cf hood and some other stuff. i will still be in the low 14s with the turbo setup. and have spent about 4k so far. i have an extra zc block that i will build later.

dude it is all up to you what you wanna build, compairing 97cu in vs anything more is stupid. both cars can be fast and its all what you perfer.

i just want to build something that hasnt been built 1000 times over.

J-SMITH69 08-01-2003 11:31 PM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

everything has been built a million times over. except i know what you mean about having something differnt. partly why i am turbocharging my integra. beating a 13.3 will be very hard without building you engine and/or swaping something.

jeff ran 12.7 with a ls/vtec turbo in his little crx. thats about what it takes. to beat a stock c5 vette. i guess he had a some traction problems but its not like a c5 vette wouldn't either...

As for the final iteration of the 400 (coded WH ), the rear end gearing was scaled back to 3.23:1, again for fuel economy, but this also allowed the '79's to go a bit faster on the top end. During road testing Car & Driver magazine sent the tach past the 5000-rpm redline to reach 132 mph at 5400 rpm. This was one of the last cars whose top speed was gearing limited rather than drag limited. The engine was still willing and trust me, has enough torque (320 lb/ft @2800 rpm) to take off in third gear, when brain faded individuals such as myself pick the wrong gear. (As much as the Hurst shifter impresses the heck out nearly everyone who sees the gleaming chrome stalk, it doesn't work as good as it looks!)
220hp/320ft-lbs of tourqe.

with terrible gearing, would be faster with better gears. everyone knows late 70s and 80s muscle cars were dogs. had more to do with the price of oil rather than anything about the engine platform

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

man, y'all just need to calm down some.

First of all, the FTO is a v6 front wheel drive car and doesn't out perform the s2000.. I think that v6 is like a 2.0 so it's a small v6 and it doesn't make much power from what I remember. And no one should be talking bad about s2000's either unless you've driven one to talk about it. It's a fun, fast little roadster and it looks sweet. I wasn't crazy about it until I looked at one real close and got to drive it. You can't expect to make a 2.0 that revs to 9k + RPM to make much torque, but it moves the car pretty good.

0-60 is 5.8 sec
1/4 mile 14.2

and it will get up to 151mph alright... I think the computer stops it around there.

ZexRex 08-01-2003 11:53 PM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

ya i was gonna get a crx hf, strip it to all hell, swap in a zc that was posted and had rods/pistons, run a t4 with equal length mani and run it till the engine popped. hell at one point we were gonna fill the waterjacket with hardblok but then i would need a trailer to cart it around. i would have but my truck is lame for towing. that would have been in the 13s easily and knocking on 12s.

well i had a car and decided ---- it its too fun to drive in the corners and quarter mile is no fun on a budget. so i got another car in better condition and got rid of the other pile. i would rather have a car that looks nice and can whip on 90% of the stuff out here. (looks nice as in clean, 17s, and lowered 1" on springs, no rust, no rice)

i will beat the other 10% later with some more boost and displacement.

J-SMITH69 08-02-2003 12:38 AM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

what were you going to do with fuel?

that crx would be pretty fast i'm sure. like in the 12s easy. but not without slicks and tranny stuff. you would prob break everrything. but thats how it goes when you push the limit

with all that ---- you would be runnin fast. but don't kid yourself there are a ton of street cars that will run 11s and maybe into the 10s.

dude i just had a thought! s2ks are what about 30k?
YOU COULD GET A SVT MUSTANG FOR 30k!!!!!!!

dude seriously do that svt mustangs are pimp, they're the same price and that mustang would eat that s2000 alive. yummy

ZexRex 08-02-2003 12:46 AM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

ya i know theres a million cars that can do that but they dont beat a corvette for $5k, the whole purpose was to be that fast for under 5 grand including buying the car. but the bet was lame, and i didnt feel like finishing it. fuel was gonna be big ass injectors with afc and free dyno tyme at a friend of a friends shop

J-SMITH69 08-02-2003 12:54 AM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

buy an old VW with a good engine in it. and throw a bunch of nitrious at it. bet won. with money to spare.

but a old novaII with a 305 in it. throw 200 shot of nitrious on it. bet won with money to spare.

but i guess if you wanted import a crx would be the best way.

the easiest way i can see is it swap a b18 in it, turbocharge stock internals and see what it runs.

MR_DR_PEP 08-02-2003 02:32 AM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

For 30k I'd rather build a factory 5 cobra, or get a supra TT and play with that.

I like the SVT cobra mustang... I had a chance to buy a "purple" 92 cobra for 3k.. very nice, but someone else got it before I could really decide. But seriously though, every other car around here is a mustang. Most people are tired of rice, but I'm tired of hearing "it's got a v8" and most of the time they stretch the V out so it's like V......e..e.e..e 8.

once I get out of school I have plans to build a mustang twin turbo setup... nobody has that here.

J-SMITH69 08-02-2003 02:45 AM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

everyone and their mother has a GT mustang. but you don't see the new SVT mustangs very often.

ZexRex 08-02-2003 10:46 AM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

svt really kicked ass on that new mustang. i gotta give them props for that, although i think they dissapointed ppl before with false hp ratings and thats why no one likes them (maybe). i have ridden in a sweet 97 gt, it was lowered side exhaust w/tons of bolt ons and a little juice. it was damn fast, i would drive it.

oh and the bet was i couldnt do it with an import b/c they are too expensive to build.

leed 08-03-2003 12:55 AM

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

so you like to drive around at low rpms? wow that’s sweet i can do that in my mom's volvo. now thats homo.
lol, good stuff here....keep it flowin guys.... :P

Im glad we have a Domestic lover here, helps keep the balance. Whens the last time you've ridden in a loud, gear drive whining, cant idle worth a ---- too much overlap, muscle mobile? you've gotta admit, no matter what you like, they ARE ------- badd-ass, period.

if drivin around a low rpms makes me go faster i like it :)

ya they are badass, its just that everyone has one, best 4cyl import around here is a s/c civic or a nitrous crx. well until next friday when my car is done hahah

there are no badass hondas here. but there is one guy who lives way out in the woods with a gsx eclipse. only mod is has is starion intercooler.... as far as i can tell from the outside lol

Re:FTO or S2K??!?!??

My buddy's got a 78 mustang with '85 302 5.0 and that mug pushes like crazy at 1500-3000 rpm... it throws you back in your seat at just 1500... that's crazy. Makes me feel better that I beat him by 6 car lenghts. The thing is, that stang he's got used to have a 429 in it and it was a freaking beast, but the guy he got it from removed it and dropped in that 302...

He's running about 14.6 in the 1/4... not too bad for that car.
