free in 11 days

in 11 days I will be a out of the army. served 8 years, most of my service overseas, and now I am free to go in 11 days,
my unit getting ready for the long desert tour again, and I will excluded.
wonder if I will miss being a soldier? I hope not but its a good feeling that I am getting out
right now I've been on terminal leave for 50 days so I already started my new job, still working for the military but with a beard, and in regular clothes. and I work by the hour now. ;D

What field are you working in? Is it directly related to your Army training? Welcome back to the norm. Are you coming back to the US?

not really, but I will soon be, contract mechanic pays $28- $40 and hour but I cant make up my mind because I would have to pay German taxes, which is high as ----
I was a mechanic in the army. now I drive a supply truck, hopfully I will get a job with the USPS here in the 5 months. because it counts towards my retirement, and it include the time served in the military

I am staying here in Germany for now, because I can get away with a lot of stuff being that I am American and the Germans dont regulate us on cars.
but I hate the fact that I cant get ---- shipped to my APO address, or I have to pay twice the price, even though it cost the same or less to ship stateside, but other than that its ok, everything is expensive here also.

but I am happy that I am out

Good for you.8 years is a long time but im sure that discipline and values instilled by the army will help you in the long run of life. You still get to use the army shop to work on your car?

It's gonna be nice to be free but you'll probably miss it one way or another. 8 years is a long time to sacrifice and I give you mad props for doing so. :6

Some of the most successful people I know have come out of the military in one branch or another. Glad you're making it out in one piece. In 11 days you are stepping out and in a few years I'll be stepping in for a commission.

Its been said but have a beer for me.

I do all my wok in my home garage, I still get to use the shop only because I get a Id card from the new job, the only thing I use it for its for 4 point lift, I rebuilds and do engine swaps in my garage. got everything I need.

That ---- sucks ass huh! And finding a company that has what you want that actually ships to FPO/APO is a pain in the ass as well. They just don't understand that shipping they pay for is only to New York .

And I think you will miss it. May be different for you though, I have been involved in the military one way or another for my whole life so I know no other way. I know once I moved back here I really felt different and out of place. The civilian world is just, well, different. The only military exposure I get now is the occasional visit up on base to see my dad. A lot different than living in Sicily (NAS Sigonella) and being surrounded by nothing but Marines/Army/Navy.

Our next door neighbor got out of the Marines after years and years of service. He would wake up at like 5 in the mourning and just stand in the yard at attention. Craps crazy.

I didn't even know there were races in Frankfurt friday night, hmm I might need to peep that when I get back. And the flag can raise at any time depending on the installation commander's discretion....mine is 0630 on my home post but that's the reg ;)

Anyways marines may be different.
