seriously, why has every thread turned into a race thing lately, I know some of it is joking, but its getting really old. I've said it before, if you hate black people walk up to one that is the same size as you alone and tell them thhat you hate black people. unless of course you only like to talk ---- over the internet

Slavery In Jamiaca

Our Motto:
Out of many people, we are one. That is the Jamaican motto. As a nation Jamaica lives it's National motto. We are a people of diverse backgrounds and still we are all Jamaicans. We are descendants of the Tainos Indian from Guyana. We share a Spanish heritage. We're from India, China, Portugal, Germany and of course Africa.

From Christopher Columbus, we inherited our Spanish background. We are taught that Columbus discovered Jamaica, despite the fact that the Arawak Indians had been there several years prior. When Columbus arrived in Jamaica in 1494, he claimed the island for Spain, who quickly imported slaves from Africa to work on it's numerous plantations. It was this time that Portuguese Jews started arriving in Jamaica from Portugal and Spain.

From Tacky, we developed our African heritage. Tacky, a slave and former African Coromantee chief with his band lead one of the bloodiest slave rebellion in Jamaica's history. Partly because of this revolution and the works of Nanny, slavery was eventually abolished in Jamaica in 1834.

The need for workers to work the plantations still remained. Indentured laborers were imported from Indian from 1845 until 1917 to fulfill the need. Germans and Chinese also came to Jamaica as indentured laborers. By 1849, the first Chinese arrived in Jamaica. And sometime between 1834 and 1838 several Germans make their way to Jamaica to work to support Jamaica's failing plantocracy.

Spain imported the first slaves in 1517 even though "white people" are being soley blamed for slavery. Read the last paragraph and you'll see that whites were slaves/laborers in Jamaica also. People don't read or they read the material that will support their opinion. So until everyone get the facts right, stop pointing fingers at each race and STFU .
