Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I pulled the tranny and the clutch was fine as well as the pressure plate and bearing. BUT here is the problem.
http://pic16.picturetrail.com/VOL695...1/74103898.jpg SOOO can i use the old bolts and what could have caused this? I torqued them down to 81lbs. I did forget to use LOC-TITE but could that happen so quickly? only 200 miles? The crank bolt holes look ok not stripped or anything. |
Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the socket will tighten them, I'd say use some thread locker and give it another whirl. ;D

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never even used a torque wrench or Loc-Tite for flywheel bolts and I've never had any problems. :-\
I probably juts jinxed myself. ::) __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ive never seen that before
u probably got lazy and stopped screwing them in :-X |
Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yea, u might had forgot to tighten them

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I suggest getting some thread locker. The marks look weird though, they don't look like straight grinding on top, can you see where it hit. Can you see any marks that hte bolts caused, cuz they hit something.

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the hit the clutch disk dumb ass
anyway, that makes me worry, i didn't use threadlocker, but there should be no need to, dumbass's like you who fucke ---- up make me worry >:( |
Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i would replace those bolts... Youre not gonna get them off if you need to if theyre even slightly stripped, like it looks like they may possibly be after you attempt to tighten them down. I usually use a 1/2" impact wrench and burp those bolts down tight. Ive used a torque wrench maybe 2x...

i see light flywheel in your future.

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The reason they arnt straight is because they were backing out and grinding. So the scrapes are round as the bolt tunred. I know i torqued them down to 81 lbs. I had a buddy hold the fly wheel with a ring gear holder and i torked them down. BUT it still some how backed out. The motor was just rebuilt 200 miles ago so no burn outs im still babying the motor a bit. Also the bolts hit the clutch.. but didnt do any damage just hit the meatal just under the spring. It didnt grove it just scraped it.

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ive heard of this happpening to one otherguy but never heard if they figured out the porblem. id make sure the surface that butts up againts the crank is clean of any dirt or debre use some red loctite and use a impact. and of course replace atleast the ones that are fucked up.

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have always put a little locktight on flywheel bolts. also i always go 95-96 foot pounds. looking at that you might want to check the specs on the clucth plate, 18 foot pounds is right on the money. well thats for a b-series, but im sure its the same

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never torque down bolts dry in a car. Always use either copa-slip or locktite on them, depending on their placement and stress they're subject to.

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im on my way out the door now to get new bolts and loctite. I will crank them down again. but i wont use a torque wrench ill use a impact. and cross my fingers.

Re:Found the Clutch problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got new bolts today and threaded one in all the way each hole by hand to be sure i didnt mess the crank threads.. it went in all the way smoothly in all the holes so im pritty sure the crank is ok. I think what may have made them vibrate out is my crank puly it is chipped to all hell. So ill get a new one well a stock new one... and have the flywheel checked and trued to be sure there is no unneeded virbation. I will put it all back together on friday at the hobby shop because the hobby shop is closed this week tues-thursday. After that i think im going to make an appointment with Wayne for like monday or tuesday befor i go to Desert Talon.
But over all im glad it was a easy fix.. but good lord those bolts are expensive. $9 just for 2 of them... BETTER than a new clutch or tranny i sapose.. |
