first time at track

I took my hatch to the track. ran it three times, had 17s on all of them. two of the runs i missed a gear. My lowest reaction time was .172. You guys think if i pratice more i will be able to get into the 16s? Also, for some odd reason my windshield wipers dont work after going down the track? I turned them on, on the way home and they got stuck up? Wtf is that?

17 inch rims man..............thats a no no............if you still have stock brakes get some slicks on 13 inch steelies...............---- im about to spend 300-350 on et slicks for my trans am..............and they are on 15 inch aluminum rims.........17's kill your times because they take to much torque to turn..........ya proablly could have ran 16 secs on steelies and cheap somewhat sticky tires.................

i think he ment 17 sec runs. the only thing he said was he was running in his hatch. nothing esle besides him missing shifts.

16's are not in your future, traps are to low. better start busting ass at mc'ds.

were you running on a .5 tree or a .0 tree?

I think 16's are possible with a good 60ft, I ran a 16.4 in the shadow at i think it was 82mph stock

Re: first time at track

Yeah your 60s could get better. don't rev so high and drop it your just doing a sit&spin. stage first so you have more time to get setup and then hold your rpms at about 4000 ish then let out fast on the clutch at first then just kind of feel for traction when it does hook up rev out first and go into second as hard and as fast as you can.
get a few more runs in go a few more times you won't be so excited to be up. then you'll start getting better 60s.

and a little hint your 60 foot time is everything, it the most important part of the run.

and with your et a 17.7 and a 2.7 you may be able to get down to a 2.1 60 and just a better shift into third your cars not fast enough to even use fourth is it, you could probably get a 16.9. I'm pretty sure I could in that car.

I think his traps are low because he's spinning of the line and probably over reving it before he shifts.

Let's start on one thing. You only need one period after a sentence. First, learn to form complete sentences, and then end them with only one period.

Like..........does this.............. make........... any....sense...........?.........

Get some better tires and a turbo kit. That'll make it all better.

Re: first time at track

ok lets put it this way Snafubmx234. Everyone has their own style of writting and not everyone prefers to write the same. but to get back on topic here, i think he can run 16's. Just depends on how he drives the car and his suspension setup. im planning on turning my 82 trans am into a track car for drags and street duty to. going to convert over to coilover in the rear, and a 350-383 stroker with a 177cid prostreet sc, or a 6/8-71 weiand sc to be dropped on top of that. 700+ hp of monsterness...

Loserkidwac 06-26-2006 12:21 AM

Re: first time at track

I'm on the edge now about him hitting 16s...you need to cut those 60' a lot but still that might only get you to low 17s you also need some better trap speeds, I say if you are on street tires launch somewhere between idle and 2K and don't miss any gears :P

Re: first time at track

yea, and it was my first time, and i was nervous. I think it is possible. Im just going to go on a slower day next time and really focus. I was revving it up to 3 and dropping it. One time it made a bunch of clunking though. (Wheelhop maybe) ? Also, could there be anything from running my car that could link it to the windshield wipers not working correrctly? Mine dont work anymore and i saw some guy drop his clutch and couldnt run (something went wrong in his tranny or motor) and his wiper blades went up?

Re: first time at track

My first time at the track I rolled thorw staging...so i had to put in reverse back up and I tried to launch at 3K and that was a bad idea in a LS swapped crx spun off first shifted to second and bogged down bad...and thats why i ran a 16.5 and lost to my friends teg :P

Next run i launched at 1500 still spun but put down a 15.3 and I shold be able to beat that next time we go, just keep practicing

Oh i have no clue about your wipers check your fuses and test the motor the switch and relay if there is one,

yea, does any of you guys know where to hook up on a GOOD set of axles/cv joints for my hatch? I heard the autozone ones are full of gayness.

they might be gay, but they will handle 200 whp launched at 7800 rpm on 20x8x14 MT slicks @ 12 psi.

Do a tune up,set the timing, practice launching on a smooth deserted section of pavement and you should be able to run at least a 16.

Im gonna have to say uhh yeah definately ---- ass driving, I ran my 90 Si Hatch for shits and giggles on a slipping stock clutch and managed to pound out a 16.3 @ 83, you must be seriously sucking ass to be throwing out times like those though.

i did miss a gear in 2/3's of the runs. Thats at least a half a second just trying to get it back into the right gear. And i was nervous as hell.

Don't worry about it man just go and practice until you feel more comfortable. After your at ease you can try changing your timing on differant things until you find ways to improve remember what you did and watch you slips and you'll get better.

2/3s of the people that say and think they can drive find out where they actually stand when they start going to the strip......and turbo that bitch. running a 16 is still fun when your just learning how to drag race. but if your going to take it seriously then you need to be faster.

+1 your times will get better eventually, at least you admitted you ran a 17, most assholes will simply take a stab at where their car runs when they have never ran at a track, not to mention they make ridicolous claims, with some practice you should be able to easily hit 16's.

Re: first time at track

and i totally aggree. I was very nervous and did not perform as well as i should have. I am going again on a slower day so i can focus on my driving. I am going to try different launches (diff. rpms) And try different tire pressure. I can admit i ran 17s, but its ok with me because i had fun and i have room for improvement. I also am picking up a turbo kit from g2terror soon. I am also picking up a vtec motor tommarow for 100 and doing a mini me swap. Imo, working on cars is half the fun if not more. Ill have some new slips up soon with some better times. Hopefully some 15s. peace out nignogs
