Practice burning out and reaction times and ---- beforehand. It'll help you out pretty well.

Re:First time at the drag strip
-DO NOT BURN OUT STREET TIRES.
-Dont go in the liquid with street tires either. -Dont show up in something slower than 16.95 -First time dont expect the best, try to feel the track out. -Track I go to is little slick since it has been resurfaced recently.*edit* dont expect it to feel like the regular street asphalt. -Best time I got was with no filter, but do at your own risk. -Have fun. There are usually some cool people out their with the same interest as you. |

...retards, ;D But yeah, avoid the water and burnout, wont really do crap on street radials but cost you tire money. React on the last yellow, I've pulled almost perfect lights doing that on street tires. As you do more runs you can feel out the react. However, my advice is that until you get used to the launch, ignore the react, unless its bracket racing, it in no way effects you anyway. Your biggest hurdle will be the launch, finding the perfect rpm range to launch in, and getting used to feathering it out. On Toyo Proxes 4's 195/50/15, I was able to snag 2.2 60 foot times on full tire pressure with no burnout. That was launching at around 4700-5000rpm with a good feather. |

Re:First time at the drag strip
i agree with what fook said about the reaction times. if you're just doing runs, not competing r/t's aren't calculated into your ET, so dont pressure yourself for a bitchin RT cuz it might mess up the rest of your run.

Yeah it was pretty sad, 17.4 or something like that. By the way I ran a 15.0 with the bad clutch after some playing with the afc, but it is still shitty. I have a new clutch waiting to go on, just don't have time to do it. |
Re:First time at the drag strip
I always do a burnout, reguardless if I am on street tires or not. I normally always go in the water box as well. Why? because all my street tires are bald as hell anyways, so they are pretty much slicks. But if you have some nice radials with some meat left on them, bypass the water box, do a shorty burnout to get the tires warm. Leave the last yellow. Powershift all your gears, and bring home that 16 second slip for us ;)

Re:First time at the drag strip
If you go and do burnouts in the water box with your street tires, generally all you're going to be doing is throwing water at your tire wells so that as you inch up to the starting grid, that water slowly just drips all over your tires! :o Then you get that slower, quiet launch and the entire grandstand gives a little chuckle your way.
Go around the box, and if you feel the need, do a small slipping burnout, just to dust off your tires. there's usually alot of little rocks and ---- going through the pit lanes. Annnd, make sure you understand how to stage. Pull up to light the first staging lights, then wait for your oponent to light up his 1st staging lights. Thenn, you can inch up to light up that 2nd staging light, and then wait for the other person to light up their 2nd staging light. If you don't do this, you might start getting other people angry, because the entire point of going in that order, is to make sure everyone is ready to launch, weather it be a transbrake, e-brake, or whatever crazy launching techniques people have these days! When you first get there, park your car, and go watch from the stands, just to make sure you have everything down pact. Good luck! |

Re:First time at the drag strip
the people at the track i go too wet the water box after every other car that goes though it. i aint goin through it next time i go. when i went last week i got outta my car
and after 30 seconds or so the played pink floyd welcome to the machine for the first song they played, kinda cool to hear that. |
Re:First time at the drag strip
I ran a a 17.081 in my crx dx with i/e and cluch. My best reaction time was .031! 60' was 2.566
|
Re:First time at the drag strip
I always go through the wetbox on street tires. I used to go around it cause I bought into these stupid myths but my 60' were more consistent doing a burnout. I always pulled a 2.1 60' which is very respectable for normal tires on a FWD.
If your going to do a burnout, than DO a ------- burnout. If your not a ----- about it your not going to be launching on water. |

Re:First time at the drag strip
dont go into the water box unless you want to fire the ---- out of your tires to burn/get the water out.. and it still doesnt get it all...
re-cap if you wanna burn off all the rubber on your tires go through the waterbox... radial tires work better cold anyways... heat is their enemy... |
Re:First time at the drag strip
Just watch what the people ahead of you do, and then do that. Don't be the DIPSHIT who has no idea how to stage. I've seen people drive right up and past the staging guys and just go right down the track. No lights. No timer. No nothing. Those people get laughed off the track.
If your car is slow, know it. Don't rev, speed or show off in the parking lots and return road. Everyone already thinks your an ------- for driving a foriegn car, don't give them more reasons. And you come back on the return road, not the track. I've never seen that, but I've heard it happens. Burnout box is a matter of preference. If you have regular tires, it's probably a waste of time/money. |
