First Car

Since theres not too much posting going on at the moment, i decided to ask you all my question.
As i said before, i started reading threads on here because a friend of mine sits on this site all the time so i figured i could get to know a bit about cars from here.
So now its time for my first car.

i dont have much money, being that my current job is at.. subway. so i have like $2000 to spend on a car.

in mind, i have two cars.

One is a '91 honda civic hatchback. the body is rough and its not a very pretty car, but it's got less than 100k miles on it. [$1200]

The other is a '94 pontiac grand prix. it looks decent, the guy who owns it now works with me and made the whole interior furr. its pretty funny. he's asking $1500 for it now, but im pretty sure he'll go down once he gets an engine for his other car.

Being that you all are honda lovers, im sure thats probably what youre going to say. But heres my delimma, i have barely driven on the streets much, and the honda is a 5-speed. the pontiac is an automatic.
i've driven a 5-speed before, but not on the streets, and im not too sure if i should have it as a first car...

your thoughts?

Re:First Car

well all of us had to learn how to drive 5speed sometime or another. if you dont know how to drive it, get it and teach yourself, thats what i did but i spent 500bux on an 85 turbo saab to do that. RIP(last 2 weeks after i got it) saab trannies dont like High Boost. but if i were you id get the civic. if its a dx ey, but if its the SI model definetly get it, dont get a pontiac with furr seats, tahts gay.

if i do, ill have to make sure that it doesnt blow up on me or anything, after that if i have any money left ill talk to you all about what color to paint it..

I vote for a CRX or a EG hatch....you can probably find one pretty easily for under $2,000....

Welcome to the site! 8)

Re:First Car

Grand prix=road side queen(cause those things are POS and I always see those things broken down on the side of the road)
Civic hatch=nice, cheap and good on gas! Plus it's a honda and that says it all. Nuff said.
If there was a brand new Pontiac(don't matter what kind cause they all blow) or a broken down honda on the side of the road. I'd take the honda cause....cause....it's a honda!!!

Re:First Car

you can save and make more power getting that honda than buying that Grand Prix. Plus its an auto yuck! :-X

Re:First Car

Get the 5 speed, better to learn sooner than later. plus the honda will be more reliable, and cheaper and easier to fix if something ges wrong.

Re:First Car

If the Grand Prix is anything like a Grand Am, it will start falling apart at 80K. I talk from experience, my wife's is in the shop every 6 months needing $300-600 in repairs. And no, I don't work on it myself, last time I did I broke a spark plug because there's a giant exhaust flange (like 6" around ???) over it putting the ratchet at an angle. I hate that car. Buy the Honda.
