So whats new/different?

kain 04-04-2008 11:52 AM

Re: firefox3 beta5

just download it and use it. it doesn't go on a memory control rampage no matter how much your viewing or how long its up. it also is twice as zippy.

it also does more neat nifty lil features in it aswell.

Jorsher 04-04-2008 11:56 AM

Re: firefox3 beta5

Yeah found an article, first test it was the fastest browser out, the other test it was second fastest.

I hope the memory issues were fixed, firefox 2 would crash after a shitton of windows were open and I know I'm not short on ram. Eventually it would have 75mb+ of memory being used even if it was only a simple page.

I hope the download resume actually works on this one. On the version I have now, when I click resume it just says "complete" and puts the halfass incomplete file somewhere.

Will try it out when I get home.

yes, it uses ram much better than firefox 2.0 its almost retarded if you watch the resource monitor. it just stays in control.

Re: firefox3 beta5

Certainly seems like it is a lot faster, and checking the memory usage proves it's not a hog. Nice

First off. Suck my baws.
Second, I likey. Less memory usage and seems to be quicker on its feet. Nice find. Oh yeah, you suck :6

Re: firefox3 beta5

On second thought. This new version uses 42mb of ram whilst my trusty ole version 1.8 only uses 20mb
I think I'll stick with it.

Re: firefox3 beta5

I downloaded it. Running great so far. It is a little zippier. Other than that not much difference. Not digging the back/forward, home, etc etc. Looks like something on one of those Leap Frog things.

In a world where everyone tries so hard to be different, the most unique thing you can do is follow the norm.

Re: firefox3 beta5

had a chance to play with it and so far me likey, much zipper especially when you have a ---- load of tabs/windows open and watching youtube videos, very stable too you guys should try it out

miss-piggy 04-05-2008 11:29 PM

Re: firefox3 beta5

You guys are kidding with the liking of this hunk of ----, right?

First of all, the back/foward button is AWFUL. Yes, store it in one spot, brilliant.....No, it's ------- retarded. If I want to go backwards, I want to click on the back arrow and select how far to go back. If I want to go forward, I want to click on the forward arrow and select how far forward I want to go. Sticking it in the same spot is ridiculous. The two different sized arrows blows pretty hard too.

Secondly, every time I start to type a web address I get startled as the results pop out and the different sizes and how they are underlined. It makes me close the application immediately.

As for the speed, seems about the same or slower. As for the resources, 55mb for one window, no tabs is about 20mb more than it uses with the old version so again, how does this use less resources? I trust the professionals for testing that, but my rudimentary tests don't agree....

I'll stick with v2.whatever.

BigD 04-06-2008 12:11 AM

Re: firefox3 beta5

Yeah I agree with pretty much everything you said. Only difference I noticed was it loaded up faster and when having a bunch of tabs open it loaded the pages quicker and didn't lag between switching tabs.

then your ---- is fubar'd to begin with. mine hasnt had one issue at all. i think its even better than 2.X of the regular firefox. i run no virus scanning software at all, and have had no issues at all. its all in the user and what the user does and what sits are visited. i was playing mugen fighting sim earlier and it crashed because of the graphical interface, while i had firefox downloading a 4 gig file. no lag that way either.

im with Kain though on this one, much better. oh and backspace works better as a back button if your quick on the hotkeys!!
