Finally got to start my car with boost!

OH Man!!! This ---- is addictive. I started the car today and it idle surges, so I crack the throttle and it cuts out REAL hard. I go and re-open the program that I burned to my chip and noticed that it had the FTL and 6 psi boost cut under 10 mph. I go and take it for a little spin around the block, runs good but now I need a clutch. Clutch doesn't even think about holding up. I've gotta get a WBO2, a downpipe, and like i said..a clutch. My boost guage has a peak recall and at some point it hit almost 15psi :o ...so that scared the crap out of me, since the program I'm using is tuned for someone else's car. Just the little bit of driving I got to do has seriously pumped me up about my car again. I'll get some pics of the finished product soon.

Ben

yeah, no $hit. I did not expect the boost to climb THAT high. Hell it's just a 14b on a Y7. I have to say that I really didn't expect the boost to be so quick either (granted I am running open exhaust..no downpipe or anything right now). I am trying to figure out the best way for me to lower the boost...but I'm sure I'll come up with something. Also, I'm going to burn another chip with a program more suited to the boost level.

Good thing I'm off work tomorrow, I've got a lot to do.

Re: Finally got to start my car with boost!

So I drove the car again tonite and the boost pulls to 20psi...i think to myself, "no f'ing way that just happened, cuz if it did my motor would be roached." so i get home and check the boost gauge instructions and find out that the power has to be hooked up very specifically, and mine is wrong. This could explain the unusually high boost pressures it's been showing me. Also, this could explain why my motor did not scatter when it hit 15 yesterday and 20 tonite.

I consider myself pretty competent when it comes to cars, but this damn turbo kit is making me feel like a super dumbass! Lots of little things that can have catastrophic effects.

if a turbo kit makes you feel like a super dumb ass, you most likely are, no offense

yeah it's not hard to get crap right for turbo kit's, and it's even easier to get wireing down for stuff like that... i had to walk this guy through like 15 times on how to hook up his boost gauge.. im like "this wire is your power, it goes here, the other is the ground, it goes here..." simple as that and he still didnt get it! :o

Re: Finally got to start my car with boost!

Geez..thanks for the support guys. :'( The only thing wrong with the boost gauge wiring is that the switched power cannot be interrupted while cranking. The gauge I'm using is the one with the seperate MAP sensor and it 'auto zero's' when you turn the key on. If it loses power during cranking then the calibration is off, thus giving me crazy readings...

What I meant by feeling like a dumbass is that I should have thought of that when I hooked it up...or at least looked a little closer at the instructions. But, again, thanks for the vote of confidence hotrex..

Anyway, I'm gonna go outside and take some pictures now.
