Feels like a vtec....
I have a 93 civic 1.5. Oddly enough, it drives just like a vtec. It's not that it has little power on the bottom end, but about 3500, you can feel the motor take off. It is the same in every gear. Mods are a cold air intake, no cat, 2" pipe, RActive exhaust.
Anyone have any idea why it is doing this? PS. The cam cover is black, but I know it is stock. all of the ones I have seen are silver. |
Re:Feels like a vtec....
Your probably smoking the cheap ----..... next time pick the seeds out of it...
It just feels that way cause its not stock anymore. Cause i could of sworn everytime I added something to the car it seamed to be faster ... for like a day... than it felt normal again... but unless you have aftermarket CAMs or something then your just tripin.... |
Re:Feels like a vtec....
a 93 1.5 is slower than an old lady with a walker and a broken leg. if you lived in my town I would give you a ride in my car and I would bring plastic bags to put down on the seat so you dont get pee on it.

and yes mine feels alot quicker with the intake etc. Yes ur motor is probably ... 160+BHP whilst the 1.5 is 90bhp ish.... Look in the same class ..... dont compare it to your motor. and yes above 4k in my car it pulls hard to the red line. and keeps going. It might not be a "quick car" as your but its farily quick. So Far ive raced Corsa's and 4x4. saxo's but only ever lost to a Vti, (that car belongs to my cousin) |

Re:Feels like a vtec....
Let's not forget that they do make VTEC 1.5's.
My 1.5 did alright, but I guess 14psi will do that to any motor. ;) __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
Re:Feels like a vtec....
it's just a sweet spot in the cam, every honda i have ever ridden in/driven is like that, it get's a deep sound and starts to pull harder at a certain rpm (usually around 4 or 5k)

Re:Feels like a vtec....
and if u listen to the list of cars he wrote down (Corsa, Saxo, lost to a VTI).. he's from Europe... might be a d15b2 vtec! ;)

no.

Re:Feels like a vtec....
That guys is from Europe..I just bought a EG with the D15B2 DPFI and it feels slow under 3,5K when it hits 3.5K it kinda gives ya a little kick and the engine starts to scream a little bit louder.....I didn't expect it from this rinky dinky engine. The MPFI swap will be done by this weekend....than the turbo will come after

Re:Feels like a vtec....
that's exactly what i'm ddoing right now semnos...if my manifold ever decides to come in that is...
|
Re:Feels like a vtec....
I am going to turbo it...How do you think I'm going to blow it?
I have everything ready to turbo it...I have my old stuff from my turboed CRX ...I made a new manifold and am going to make a new downpipe. I just need to do the DPFI->MPFI Swap and install my stage 3 6puck Clutch. |
Re:Feels like a vtec....
lol i drove the 96 civic we just put the d16y8 engine into (never drove it before, bought with blown engine) and it has a short shifter and catback with an intake, thats about it. First off im really surprised, it doesnt pull very hard in 1st like i expected it too, but it seems to pull in 3rd better than most accords/civics ive driven. It also doesnt seem to get very powerful until about vtec (5k) then it pulls decent to 7+k, and it seems to have good traction if you dump it in 1st gear at 3k or so. I cant do that in my accord itll spin the tires into oblivion even dumping the clutch at 2k it blows them away, so i need to feather it...
