Failed emissions, need help

I just took my emissions test and failed. My hydrocarbons and carbon monoxied were barely over. Im running a greddy turbo kit on my d16z6, with a 12:1 FMU and Inline fuel pump. I disconnected the wastegate as well. Why wouldn't i pass? I was using full exhaust with cat and muffler too. Is there some way i can use a dx ecu and pass? Any ideas?

Also, i have to get a reciept from a shop saying the problem was fixed, what if i fix it myself? I don't want to pay another 30 bux to take the test.

Any and all help is appreciated.. thanks.

Re:Failed emissions, need help

Just register it somewhere that you don't have to pass emissions. After 3 failed emissions this year, that's what I did.

Re:Failed emissions, need help

Fill up your tank and add 1 gallon of denatured alcohol. I heard about this awhile ago and I now do this when I know I'm not gonna pass. It really does work. You can get it a Home Depot for aobut $12 a gallon.

Not to screw up the thread, but Blondee, your av is great! I have two Bostons myself. They are great dogs

Re:Failed emissions, need help

what exactly does it do, and it made you pass? Can anything bad come out of using it?

Re:Failed emissions, need help

What about having to have a reciept by a shop saying it was fixed?, again, what about if i do it myself?

rexracer 11-17-2003 03:51 PM

Re:Failed emissions, need help

It just burns really clean. It will not harm your engine as long as you use one gallon to a FULL tank of fuel.

:D Thats what I've done everytime I need to get a sticker and it's worked every time. Theres tons I could get failed for with my car. I want to know more about this denatured alcohol thing. I've never heard of it and I personally would be a little scared putting anything but gasoline in my engine. Your postitive you've tried it and it never did any harm?

how much was your timing retarded? do it some more

Re:Failed emissions, need help

thanks for the quick replys guys, anything else? Im pretty sure putting alky in there will make me pass

rexracer 11-17-2003 05:31 PM

Re:Failed emissions, need help

Yes, I am positive that I've used it. I do it when I know I'm gonna fail. Denatured is basically ethyl alcohol and as long as one gallon is diluted with a full tank of gas there will be no harm to your engine. I'm sure you know, but ethanol is what dragsters run on. I wouldn't suggest it if its gonna hurt someones car.

Re:Failed emissions, need help

Stuff some steel wool in your exhaust and pay a shop $10 to write you a reciept that they did "something". I don't know. ???

If you had a hack you could just lean it out.Throw away that FMU and buy a hack. Then lean that ---- out!

If your high on hydrocarbons you want to advance your timing. I had the same problem so I had to take my car to "Top Notch Auto" its basically 2 guys on Market St. sitting in lawn chairs. Nothing like your local lick em' and stick em'

officer: where is your cat?

me: sorry sir, i'm allergic to em!

Re:Failed emissions, need help

That is another thing that denatured does. It leans your car out. I'll put money on it that you do it, take it in, and you pass.

Re:Failed emissions, need help

You could take it up here to Havasu and register it. The wait at the DMV here is like 5 minutes and NO EMISSIONS! ;D You can renew over the internet or over the phone when it expires so you won't have to come back down.

Re:Failed emissions, need help

Here is the registration. I'm not sure exactly how the whole process would work, but if you came here and registered your vehicle, you could just renew it and never have to worry about it. ----, they canceled my registration because I couldn't provide proof of insurance and then they sent me a renewal form in the mail. I renewed for the same fees and never had to worry about insurance. I did that for 4 years. ;D

Dude check this out, this is what you do, it works every time!!! Go to your DMV and tell them that your car doesn't run and just sitting in your apartment complex and tabs had expired and you can not just keep it there the way it is and also right now you don't have any money to get it fixed, but you still need the tabs, and if they hussle you to damn much just tell them that in a couple of weeks or so when you will have money you will get the car towed to the shop where it will get fixed and THEN you will go and pass emissions but in the meen while you still need your tabs. Try that i have done that a couple times, that was some easy ---- plus you save money. HA HA ;D Good luck dude... hope it helps...

Re:Failed emissions, need help

I read up on the site a little bit, and it still says that since the form they sent me says "emissions test required" that I will still have to pass it. Also, if i register online, will they send me my tags? Cause im pretty sure my info will be pulled up on the screen and show that I need to pass emissions. I have a friend that lives in tuscon, and we are visiting him this weekend. Maybe i will drive and try to do it there. Also, about the address, Will i have to use someone else's?

Thanks. BTW, I failed emissions for the second time today! >:(

Dr.Boost 11-20-2003 04:42 PM

Re:Failed emissions, need help

They send me my tags in the mail. I just make sure I pay it on time so a red flag doesn't pop up and alert them that I have no proof of insurance. If you had to use an address here I wouldn't mind letting you use mine. I'm probably going to be here a while. At least long enough for you to get your emissions taken care of. :-\

Re:Failed emissions, need help

I just talked to a rep on the phone, and he said that I was required to pass no matter what. He said that's its easier to pass there than in Phoenix, but nonetheless am still required. Do you know if I aplly for my tags online, are they going to ask for some proof that I pass emissions?

Dr.Boost 11-20-2003 05:04 PM

Re:Failed emissions, need help

Well that's weird because they have no way to test emissions here. I have a hard time believing that if you moved here and tried to register your car, they would make you drive to Phoenix to do an emissions test when they don't require them out here. That sounds funny. :-\

Im almost positive its the injectors, is there any way just to test the 02 without buying another one?

Re:Failed emissions, need help

download one of the service manuals for either civic or del sol 92-95 and they have waht you need to do to test it.

I told you to try denatured alcohol. I wouldn't say it if it didn't work.

Turbodelsolman 11-22-2003 03:54 PM

Re:Failed emissions, need help

Well, i just came back from tuscon, i failed again >:( Somethings really fucked up, the first time i failed it was borderline, the second time it was a little worse, and now its like un-------believeable. Instead of being cheap im just going to replace my injectors and 02. God damnit.

rexracer 11-22-2003 04:20 PM

Re:Failed emissions, need help

Can nobody see what I am writing on this board. DENATURED ALCOHOL WILL PASS YOU. It seems that you enjoy failing because you are unwilling to try this. Doesn't matter to me though cause I pass everytime.
