Factory chipped ecu?

I bought a pr4 from a 92 integra.
When i opened the cover i'm like wtf?!!
The ecu is chipped from factory, the weld are all flawless, it has been done by a machine.
I also have another pr4 from a 93 intregra, both are pr4-a11 but the 93 is normal.

the ceramic capacitor in c51 c52 are the same has the one on c30
r54 has a resistor and j1 also
ic4 chip (74hc373) is the brand as the ic9
and the ic3 chip is an oki japan m27256-17 (notice the sticker also...)

Ecu guru, am i lucky or what? less job, all sensor are there! I guess i just have to cut the chip and install a socket...

Here is some shitty pics (sorry my cam suck...)

Searching on the web, i found some ecu did came chipped from factory, you just need to remove the external eprom, install a socket and put a new chip and voila, fast n easy chip ecu.

yeah, A LOT of the pr4's i've seen run off an external eprom already, i've seen a few p05's/p06's this way, but mostly pr4's. but like dustin said, the people (i forget the name of the company, some electronics peep in indial, no, not denshigiken) who designed honda's ecu's incorporated the location for external eprom so they could use it to run different rom's on the same board type, like we do ;) but yeah, just remove that chip and put a socket there and you're done :)

i usually cut all the legs off first, makes things much easier and safer instead of pulling the chip out thinking you have them all loose and finding out one's still stuck and ripping a trace :-X

Yep, I busted a perfectly good P75 doing that once. Since then, the snipping method works the best in that situation.

me too...friend started freaking out when he saw me hacking out the chip. i don't want to ruin a perfectly good ecu just because of a stock chip. i think a lot of california ecu's are also chipped for extra emissions.
