F150 Rear end question
I was talking to my uncle today and he wanted me to find him a replacement F150 rear end for his '93. I looked around on craigslist for a bit and didn't see any.
Later I talked to him more about what exactly he needed and why. He said it makes noise, especially at highway speeds when you take your foot off the accelerator and coast. Howl, not quite, Heavy hum with vibration more like it.
The shop he took it to said "something about the spider gear and bearings being worn out"
From what he said it sounds like we could just replace the differential and not the whole rear-end... any reason that wouldn't work?

I'd find a used rear end if it were my truck. Rebuilding a diff. is one thing, but you gotta re-shim and get the pinion depth/preload correct regardless. Lest it will just happen again in 15-25k miles.
