yeah, I started out low on the scale (all right, so I'm pretty damn near the bottom) but there is alot of potential to climb through the ranks where I'm at. Right now I'm DoD and DoA civilian employee (no contractor here 8)) in the wage grade status, although I've been putting alot of thought into going back to college and jumping to the GS scale where there's alot more room to climb.

Not really, where I work is a DoD repairs and overhaul type of facility...or logistics center as they call it (we're actually the #1 C4ISR logistics center in the country). Basicly we repair all the equipment the branches of the military breaks. Without us, the military enforcing marshall law will be stuck with broken equipment 8)

Re: F the federal government

more and more civilians are taking over the military each day. IMO, your retarded to retire in the military.....if your worrked about your money.

Compare the pay charts of a 20y GS-12 to a 20y E-7 in the military. (your average retiree)

E-7 at 20 years military, $43,000/ year
GS-12 entry level, no additional income (add-ons for certs, etc) $63,000/yr

GS is also entitled to sick leave, etc. etc. also take into account that you wont be a entry level GS12. $63k for a GS12 is pretty good...

=======================================

Heres my military paygrade:
E-5 6 years $27,000 a year, before entitlements
GS-5 1 year of service, $34,000 before entitlements

I cant wait to be a GS worker. :P
