Ok, I'm ashamed, but my F&F knowledge has to let you all know:

The "Original" car wasn't even in the movie. A guy had his car fixed up kinda like the one featured in the movie and went to shows. The producers copied his car and payed him to base the eclipse around how his looked. The owner did a carshow for me when I worked at Westcoast Spoilers.

The movie set had around 7 of each of the main cars. All of them identical. None of them were fast whatsoever. One would be rigged up for the blowing up scene, one was rigged for the "floorboards fall out" scene, and there were a couple just in case something happened. Which when they were all racing and the eclipse blew up and spun out, the white civic clipped him in the first take of that scene. They grabbed another identical civic, and another eclipse, and re-shot the scene. The "big drag race" scene was filmed at no more than 30 MPH MAX. None of those fucken cars were fast.

And no, I'm not a F&F nerd, I was an extra in the first one. :P

The statistic I DON'T have is how many fucken ricers built cars to make people think they owned the movie cars. Some people built them and sold them on ebay claiming they were the "one" movie car, and I'm sure the producers sold some off, and then your average NOPI ****** probably built two of em. That would explain this lame *** video of an 18 second car. lol

Man, back in the day nobody knew how ricey and gay it would end up being. We were told that they were filming the first "import" movie and it was originally called "Redline". They paid us $80 a night to hang out from 7pm to 7am with free catering trucks all night. The only thing we had to do was ever 15 minutes when they shot a scene we had to stand out in the street and cheer. It was easy money as a kid.

The other scene I was at was when the eclipse rolls up to discuss the race (between the buildings). That was the night we were all shitfaced drunk and my friend tells me "there's ja rule". I was like "who's ja rule?" He tells me he's some rapper guy and I kinda made my way over (everyone was watching the film shooting going on). Then I'm standing next to this guy, and I'm drunk so I say "so, you're some rapper, huh?". Then I asked him which songs he did, and then told him I'd never heard of any of them. Then my friend pulled me away and said he thought he was getting mad because I told him I didn't know any of the songs. Anyway, I got paid $80 for being drunk, and I still don't know who the ---- Darky is.

I had the "original" (the guy's car they copied) on Opening Night along with a couple cars from Team Hybrid at the big theatre at Ontario Mills mall. At 11pm they told us we had to shut it down cause the ricers were causing a scene doing burnouts and jumping hydrolics all over. It was mad ricey, and good publicity.

If you watch the movie closely you can see the rear drum brakes in some scenes (only RS came with rear drums, car "was" a GSX.)
